I spun through the Bills game again on TIVO last night and after watching Gus drop back, nervously pat the ball two or three times and then throw a completion to the other team, I hope to God that Jason Garrett gets that corrected; its a total telegraph... There was some sports writer or commentator that mentioned Gus telegraphing his throws... That must be what he was reffering to.

If Gus wants to pat his balls on his own time, that's fine... But while on an NFL football field, the pocket is no place to patt his balls.

I noticed the ball patting as well.
Kind of strange to see an NFL QB doing something even good High School coaches will teach their QB NOT to do.
Still, Gus is the best we have for at least this year so get ready to see more ball pats!

Ouch, we have a self mutilator on our hands!

Maybe the Phins should hire a good Dominatrix for a QB coach..... or maybe just dress up Garret in some leather and studs and give him a little booty whip. That may keep Gus away from his balls all together!

I know many coaches say it is a bad thing, but fact of the matter is many many very good Qbs do/did this. Marino did it, Elway, Brady does it now, Pennington, Leftwich. Some do mutliple pats, some pat it once right before it is thrown. It's a hard thing to overcome because it seems like a natural habit.

I was going to say that. The patting is not a big deal. He telegraped that int by staring at Booker and then pumping once.

He can pat the ball all day long for all i care, as long as he gets his timing down. Going to a check down reciever would have eliminated that pic in the endzone at buffalo.

I also thought he should have put it on the outside where only Booker had a chance at it.

Come on guys. Everyone knows you should pat the ball.

It's fun

It Sounds cool

It looks cool

Yea, it was a bullet thou, actually pretty good play to pic it off! Did you see ronnie standing in the flats all alone, i was screaming, ronnie's open, ronnies open!!!

I disagree, patting the Ball is a no no, it says to the defenders "I'm getting ready to throw the ball to the player I'm looking at"... It also shows nervousness, tentativeness and a lack of timing with the receiver.

I don't remeber Marino doing it, although I do remember him commenting that its a BAD thing to do.

I'm not bashing Gus, I think he's our best proven option right now, but I think it needs to be corrected.
