Death of an Optimist

I am there with you. I used to be a complete ******* after a dolphins loss. You couldn't talk to me for 2 days afterwards. However, the past 4-5 years, it just doesn't hurt anymore like it did. I don't know what changed but I just laugh at the repeated mistakes and expect a loss anymore. Once you get to where I am, the losing just becomes another thing you "deal" with during football season. I think this is how the bucs and lions fans felt during their dark ages. You get used to it....

Same here.

The losses dont affect me as much. I just hope for a better outcome next time and move on.

The problem is that very few analyze football ... they let their fandom emotions color their opinions from watching games.

About everyone in the media-world told us what was coming ... and a few folks on the board. (One TV guy picks Miami every game, because that's TV & they don't want to insult us ... duh!!!)

Talent is thin, coaching is poor. Been that way several years ... & we get around it with fandom-rationalization.

Who are our stars? ... Wake, Long, & Marshall ... we have a few up & comers but they're like a ton of guys in the league until they become stars. That's just a fact & it shows on the field. Plenty of guys have been drafted around the league & become stars in the last 5-10 years, even 3 years ... but not around here.

Things can turn around this season, but we'll still be riding in a leaky boat. And the coaching is not even getting the value out of the limited talent we have ... we're always out-planned from game-plans to situation-plans ... a day late & a dollar short.

I dont believe the national pundits knew any more about this team than we did. They just got lucky in their predictions. Face it, they dont look at this team on a daily basis. They barely look at tape of this team. They said this team was crap because of how last year ended, and because it was trendy...

That doesn't change the fact that they were more correct than I about this team's chances... But it was a 50/50 proposition.

team went 7-9 two years in a row i dont think it was 50/50

it is tough on all of us phin fans to deal with ground hog day for ten years, i am sure most of us could have built a team in ten years, its is getting tough drafting 13 every year and not getting the player that changes the franchise, i am very sad right now

We have seen this story before. The Dolphins will go into the bye 1-3, and then they will string together a few wins in the easy middle part of the schedule, giving all us "homers" that they will mount some miracle run to the playoffs. Well, I'm not biting on that crap again... They will hover around .500 and collapse at the end of the season, per usual. YAY, 7-9!
Bro, come all the way into the dark side of realism. This team will will start 0-5 and not win more then 5 games.

That would be much better than 7-9. I'd rather tank than be mediocre again. Not that I won't be rooting for us to win the next couple of games so we can try and make that miracle run. It happened in 2008, but we were under much more polished hands in the QB department.

With the way the defense has been exposed for all upcoming teams to see, as well as the continued lack of adjustment and game management skill; I really need to rethink my 8-8 prediction. I was torn between it and 7-9, but it looks like both could be a good way off. And yes, two games are enough to see that, just as 3 years was.

LOL, I was being polite. One of my big points is that the fans don't know what's going on with our own team ... and that's a BIG FACT!! They don't see we're thin on talent & have poor coaching the last few years. i.e. Named Sparano Fluffy last year ... but no one picks up on it!! Actions & words are all fluff ... he doesn't fix anything. Daboll is about the first positive thing I've seen & not sure about him yet.

Well guys, as a Jets fan I'm not going to tell you that I think you will turn it around this season.

I will however tell you that just a few years ago most Jets fans felt the same way. So yes, I do believe that a new coach can change an entire franchises attitude and along with that the fans as well.

I was optimistic that Henne really had turned the corner. Now Im back on the fence. I know, I know, he had a few bad breaks. Bottom line though, he really didnt play all that well even considering that. Marshall dropped a TD and the INT wasnt his fault, but give him the TD and take off the INT and even then he still wasnt all tat great. Hope he rebounds next week but I can convince myself of good things anymore.

I think the national pundits knew more than you think. I think the big difference is their ability to be objective about things that the common fan around here, no matter how closely they follow the Dolphins, could not be objective about.

You're always going to be able to find a devil's advocate angle for every single issue. Every single one. But just because it's there, doesn't mean it's right. The difference is that the national pundits, Las Vegas, bettors, all those people...didn't insist on finding all those devil's advocate angles, in order to make the Dolphins out to be better. They viewed things a little more objectively.

Vegas isn't out to lose money. They're not always right, but they're good at what they do, and yes they know at least as much as the every day FinHeaven poster does about the Dolphins.
