With Glen Dorsey, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston and a host of defensive players selected in this years draft. What do you think the odds of Phillip Merling squeaking out Defensive Rookie of the Year? I give him 15% chance at best. What/who do the rest of you think?

Ive said it before......watch out for Kendall Langford. I saw him play in person in college and including Justin Durant (jaguars) he was the best defensive player on the field.

Of the names listed, Gholston probably has the best chance since he's more of a pass-rush specialist and if he has any kind of sack count will be in the hunt for it.

That depends has anyone said where he definitly will be playing? DE or OLB in our 3-4? If he is playing DE i would say less than 1% becuase first he has to start 2nd a DE in the 3-4 don't usually generate great stats, look and Seymore and Ty Warren for the pats probably the 2 best 3-4 DE's in the game right now and they dont generate near the numbers to garner DPOY consideration. if he is playing OLB his chances are better but unlikely either way.

I dont think Glenn dorsey, Chris Long, or Vernon Gholston will win it i think it will be someone picked in the later rounds maybe LB Dan Connor will win it i think a MLB will win it

I agree totally, I think it will be someone outside the top 5 defensive picks.

Realistically I think Cromartie has a shot if he starts. Arizona’s rush D is not to bad and the pass D was horrible last year. With Cromartie being a rookie starter (presuming he starts) teams are going to take shots at him until he proves he can cover. He will be given a good opportunity to prove himself, the question is will he do it.

im going to say dorsey. as far as merling is concerned......... him and beck are neck and neck at 0%

I think Langford will have a better shot then Merling. I think Philip will have to get 100% healthy before he can be his most effective and I think Langford is going to be a very good player in the NFL. Considering Langford is healthy I give him the edge over Merling.

I'd put Keith Rivers as the favorite to be DROY because he'll be the focus of the defense much like Vilma was for the Jets, Ryans for the Texans, Tatupu for the Seahawks, and Willis for the 9ers. I'd also add his USC teammate Sed Ellis has a favorite, but I expect the DROY to be a LB. I don't see any of the rookie pass rushers getting more than 8 sacks this year (though i could be wrong)

i see beau bell having a huge year. i watched him in college and was amazed at the ability. i wanted us to take him bad. now, all i read is how much the browns love him and how quickly he absorbs what the coaches tell him. i see him lighting it up in the 3-4. that size/speed combo is nasty.

I wouldn't expect a sick pass-rush out of this guy his rookie year. Our team has a lot of building on defense to do. We don't have the pieces in place for anyone to truly shine. With that said, I'd say look out for V. Gholston or G. Dorsey. Both are standout players with a ton of talent and are ready to play.

With that said, a linebacker will grab the rookie away, probably V. Gholston. There's just too much quarterback sack in the guy. In the long run numbers impress those who aren't a fan of the team and those who are.

But Gholston will put up his two worst games in Miami and back at Giants Stadium against a certain South Florida football team... I hope.

This is a random guess, and I really want him to do all right, but don't look for much out of rookie defensive end Chris Long. He'll have a strong season, but he's not going to be as dominate off the start as he was in college.
