Personally I'm a fan of the 3-4 and think Glen Dorsey COULD be dominant at NT and with the addition of a FA upper level corner, progression from Jason Allen at Safety, and drafting another ILB we could have a dominant defense again. Any thoughts?

I's Jason Allen at cornerback?

Ummm...Yeah he started the last half(ish) of the season after we lost our 85th saftey to a season ending injury. He showed improvement throughout the course of the season. But I think he lacks the natural instincts to be anything but an average safety in the NFL.

he's both but I'm pretty sure they had him at safety at the end of the year where he was improving.....and we have Will allen and travis daniels at corner who I believe with the addition of a marquee corner could compete for nickel and we'd have 3 solid corners

dorsey would be good on a 4-3 team. hes not the giant run stuffer everyone thinks he is. i dont want him period. jason allen needs to stay as FS, and learn just one position for now so that he has some chance of success. i think he will be fine. ILB wise beau bell is the man.

I see Glenn Dorsey as a 4-3... Vince Wilfork for the pats has been terrific for them in their 3-4,....but I would be happy to see him in a Dolphins uniform.

I don't think Dorsey would work out well in a 3-4. I do think Allen needs to play safety and keep on improving. He was one of our few positives last season.

Like the others have said,Dorsey's not a NT...he'd be a great DT on a 4-3 but not a NT on a 3-4.....our guy if we stay at 1 is Chris Long...the guy we could take later is Okam if he's there at 32...he could be a NT on the 3-4.

Ozzy rules!!

Just so everyone remembers, Vince Wilfork of the Patriots, did NOT play NT in college at The U. He played DT in the traditional 4-3. Well it looks like he has done pretty well at adapting to and becoming a great NT. I know Vince is the more prototypical size for a NT but still, the transition is one I can see Dorsey making.

I'm not sold on Dorsey at NT, sure he may be able to play it but we can't draft him on the assumption that he could. If we're definitely going 3-4, I think we're better off taking someone else.

As far as Jason Allen, he looked alright at safety although was out of position too many times, especially in the Cincy game. If we can get a good secondary coach to coach him to play the position, I think he could have a breakout year because he's a hell of an athlete.

I'm confused.. are we definately going to a 3-4. ISn't chris long a DE??? If it came down to the two of them wouldn't dorsey be the guy more apt to making the transition to NT??

I don't know much about long, unless we are talking jake long but thats offense. So somebody enlighten me if you don't mind.

I don't see why dorsey isn't perceived as a run stopper. I certainly think he could get the job done, and I wouldn't be a bit mad if we took at 1.

We're asking the wrong questions here. Can Dorsey play NT? OK, so Wilfok did adapt pretty well, so maybe he can. But the pats didnt draft Wilfok with the #1 overall pick in the draft. So assuming he can become a great nose tackle in the NFL, is it worth the number 1 pick. If you run a 3-4, the nt is not gonna make alot of plays, his job will be to occupie blockers... This would be a huge waste of talent IMO. Now if you're running a 4-3, its a different story, the DT will make plays, and even get a few sacks a season.

The only way I see Dorsey in a 3-4 scheme is at DE and his skills at that position would not warrant the first pick...IMHO

the fact is both are undersized in the 3-4. dorsey would in fact be an end in the 3-4 where long would have to bulk up or switch to outside linebacker. dorsey just isnt #1 talent IMO, where long has more upside and a better motor. the only DT that i can even think of giving a #1 pick to are guys like sapp and white - where dorsey isnt even in their league.

and hes pretty good against the run - had a ton of tackles for a DT. but could he take on 2 or 3 lineman and do the same thing? no.
