Defense got worn down...BS!!

as a bengals fan, i can't believe you guys would blame your defense for the loss last night... if it wasn't for your defense, the score would be something like 40-13...

Your guys' defense is tough, and thats coming from a team that plays the ravens twice a year... you guys might have a better d (or at least last night) than the ravens... We couldn't run the ball, and contrary to the stats (stats CAN lie) we are a run first team... since our runs were rarely working, we had to pass more than we wanted... both offenses were not very good last night...

the bengals defense benefitted from the lack of offense by the dolphins... no offense, but that was horrible... even though both offenses looked equally pittiful, the bengals d is not that good... There are good defenses in college that could stop that offense last night...

btw, the way that your OL looked last night, i might have retired to if i were Rickey Williams...
:nono: For the 100th time, NO BODY is blaming the defense.

Since you're a Begals fan, you probably don't know that a hallmark of this great defense over the last 8 years has been to fold, sometimes atrociously, when they are needed most.

The defense is good, and they sometimes play like they're great but, they're flawed.

Whether it be coaching, motivation, mental strength our physical strength, is anybodies' guess but, it's a recurring theme none the less.

I think this had more to do with his retirement than people think. He was used as a workhorse with very little support from the O line and the passing game, and the only thing this team really accomplished last year was shortening his career. In that kind of situation you either want to be the highest paid player on the team (and he wasn't -- FIEDLER of all people was making more), or you want out.

Notice that he wanted to play for the Raiders -- they drafted Gallery, Grove, and 2 speedy WRs within their first 5 draft picks this year. And I'm sure Ricky knew Norv would pass more once he was out from under DW's ridiculous philosophy. DW was using Ricky as a battering ram, plain and simple. That's fine if you pay him a lot and give him one of the best O lines in the league, but DW did neither.

Either way, this offense better start producing if we expect to win at all this year. With Bowens and Chester out it'll be pretty hard to continue with the same defensive philosophy. DW's defense works by using the DTs to absorb blockers so the DEs and LBs can make plays. Can't do that now. Let's see if DW keeps trying to stick the square peg into the round hole -- my bet is that he will. He's still doing it on offense with no Ricky.
And the special teams better start looking like the correct type of "special"....Yep, there's plenty of blame to go around. ....:woowoo:

I must have misread the early posts... and honestly, i didn't make it all the way through, but wasn't that the whole point of starting this thread (whoever started it)?

I don't get that impression from the thread starter or the TITLE of the thread.

It was the scrub Wyrick we signed acouple days ago's side who was passed on.

The ONLY reason this game was EVEN CLOSE was our defense. We should have been blown out.

thats right. why cant ppl see that. if it wasnt for our D, we would of gotten blown out. who's fault is it since our OL couldnt run or pass block? we gave up a total of 9 points.

the title is "defense got worn out, bs".. isn't that saying that the originator of this thread is saying to not make excuses, they were at fault too... if he meant that its a team game and everyone is responsible, thats cool, but if you all are pointing fingers (like we do when we lose:D ) then you can't put any blame on the defense... the final drive by Palmer was b/c of Carson Palmer... it might be hard to comprehend that you can stop someone all game, then he comes out of nowhere and is unstoppable, it happens... see John Elway or Marino ... some people just know how to win... Since its only his second game (and i'm VERY biased) its hard to say that, but you guys did nothing different that drive, you guys still played to kill the deep ball, and take Chad Johnson out of the game... Palmer just stepped up... He has been showing us his maturity all preseason...

what is your guys' honest opinion of palmer?... i feel he handled the blitzing very well and only made 1 or 2 mental mistakes, and about 2 or 3 bad throws... not too bad for a rookie

I think the thread starter was trying to make a point that many fans give the defense a free pass because they get worn down by the offensive inneptitude.....when the time off possession is even, that excuse is BS.

All the "blaming" talk came from people who didn't understand the thread's premise.

He is going to be a star...But as I predicted...He got owned by our defense...(we always kill rookie/1st year QB's)...

He's a stud...congratulations.

They don't always get a free pass from me....

They do get a free pass from me for the Bengals game though.

we lost beacuse Poole had to leave the game on that one pass play to Chad Johnson. Is there anyone who thinks that pass would have been completed if Poole was in there?

TIME OF POSSESSION miami 28:33 Cincy 31:27

Our poor defense....so over worked....:shakeno:

Maybe it wasn't the defensive players.
Maybe it was a change of Defense.
Miami has a history of playing a softer defense towards the end of a half or the end of a game when they are trying to run out clock. That's a decent strategy IF and only IF you are up by at least a TD. It's a terrible strategy when you are in a tie game. It's just plain ignorant to change up your defense that has been stopping the other team cold when the game is on the line. I believe Miami, as Miami has done many times in the past, changed to much softer coverage. I don't have a tape to review it but as I was watching that last drive it seemed to me they were playing softer. Can anyone confer that?

Our defense has allowed one touchdown in two games.

If you're looking for a scapegoat for 0-2, look elsewhere. With the injuries we've sustained and the complete non-support from the offense, the defense has done everything it can do.
No one is blaming the D. However pointing out a simple trend that many are not paying attention too.

Miami's D played great. However with the game on the line at the end of the 4th they could not get the Bengals off the field. No one said the D cost Miami the game. However saying they failed at the end is a viable statement.

Because they did, as they have many times previously in the same situation.

It is a definite trend and it has been that way for years now.
I don't believe it's players at all.

I believe it's coaching plain and simple.
These guys always like clock work change to softer coverages like teams with 10 point leads or more switch into when they are trying to run out clock.
Problem is that is seems Miami's switches to these coverages even in tight games like the game Sunday night where every single yard was critical.

It's all in that conservative mentality of this whole staff and I hate it.

that last drive id blame on the coaching more than the defense with 2 big mistakes...

1) calling a timeout on 2nd and 6 with like 1:45 left, why are you stopping the clock for the bengals on a 2nd down, i know your hoping to get the ball back but at least wait till its 3rd and long or 2nd and long before you start using your own...

2) that pivital 3rd down when you have your 5th cb in the game, so what do you do? bring in a blitz?!?! you have someone you know isn't the best corner and hes on one of the best WRs in the league and your gonna bring in everyone on a blitz and leave him out there by himself? cmon be smarter than that and look at the situation, hes gonna need help so give it to him there and dont bring EVERYONE on the blitz...

i mean obviously the offense was weak but we were in a position to win the game and the coaching really ****ed up that last drive and the d let us down...
