I don't know how many of you guys realize exactly how terrible our defense has been this year. Outside of a few games, the defense, the secondary in particular, simply has been bottom ten in the league. Our WRs are not great, but if Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman are having career games against our secondary, it's clear that we've got much bigger needs than WR. By no means has our offense been prolific, but at the very least we're middle of the pack in scoring offense. As of Sunday, our defense has given up the third most plays of above 20 yards and the seventh most plays of above 40 yards, ranking among such defensive powerhouses as Tampa Bay and the Lions. Our starting safeties have combined for a meager 1 INT all year. I'll admit that WR is one of our weaker spots, but our defense's inability to contain even average passing games has killed us most this year.

Both are GIANT needs, that must be addressed! If we don't fix both sides of the ball we will all be back here a year from now in the same pissed off situation!

I didn't read your post but the title says it all, and I agree 100%. The defense lost us the game today. And many others this year.

I disagree. Our passing game made strides this season once Henne managed to develop some chemistry with the WRs. They weren't putting up 40 points or anything, but they kept us in games that our secondary seemed deadset on losing. Our secondary had one good game against the Pats and took the rest of the season off.

At the beginning of the year I would have disagreed with you but now I agree. That isn't to say that we don't need a #1 receiver though, BECAUSE WE DO. But defensively we are just bad right now. No safeties, old pass rushers, crappy linebackers, and no NT.

Even still look at the last three games when we really needed separation or a big play on the final drive we just didn't get it. I am all for bringing in great players on defense I have been saying all along sign Dansby and Wilfork. I am also saying we can't ignore a glaring need on the other side of the ball.

What people keep failing to realize is . . . we are DEEP at WR, we are just missing one guy. We need atleast 4 new LB's, a FS and a NT.

Bring in a veteran WR and NT (If u can't get a vet, make sure we resign Ferguson for one more season). Draft your LB's and hopefully we get lucky at FS in the draft or FA, or maybe the guys we have step up.

Yeah Bell is a good SS. 3 ints, 2 sacks, 120 tackles. Wilson needs to be replaced. ILB Keep Torbor verybody else buh bye. OLB, Wake & Anderson are the best pass rushers. NT. Solai is not a bad NT IMO. we need a backup not a starter

But they are very average, except Hartline this kid looks like a true player and I am excited about him!

I'd rather address deffense, our Wrs are average, but they can score and they can get open, the problem is our Deffense, it really sucked this year

yeah its pretty obvious the dolphins D has been subpar. Dont be surprised if the trifecta decides to go defense with their top pick in the draft.

We've got 4 receivers and Ted Ginn who have all shown that they can be good components in the passing game. Sure, Ted Ginn has definitely crippled the entire team from being able to pull out wins with some untimely drops, but everyone else has come to play and even though they are not elite, they are functional and can all do nice things that can be emphasized in a gameplan.

Our defense, on the other hand, has come into three games in the stretch run and completely bowed out. This in addition to the atrocious effort in early-season games like the Colts game. I came into the season thinking that the defense was terrible and while they had some good games here and there, it doesn't change the fact that they are prone to being exploited every week by a good gameplan, leaving our entire team essentially in the dust before the second quarter is even over.

The defense is definitely the biggest priority, but the biggest difference between that and the offense is that we can all look at the offense and see exactly how improving one position could dramatically improve it, and we can even see the players who could possibly fill that. The defense has multiple weakpoints, and I don't think that finding improvements for these spots are going to be as easy.

we need ILBs. Ayodele gets beat in coverage just as much as Bell/Wilson do and Channing is Channing (not as bad as some make him out to be but not a playmaker). A true FS, and some more pass rushers (JT and Porter don't have bad stats, but they were invisible way too much this year).

We did fine this year when Henning remembered that our WRs aren't deep threats, and IMO we forgot about Fasano way too much this season. That being said, if we have a chance at Dez Bryant and McClain is gone, I'd take Dez.

Am I crazy for liking Hartline? He seems to have the ideal size and speed you look for in a #1 WR. I think he along with the entire offense do much better if we had a real weapon at TE. Fasano is a great blocker, but is not a difference maker in the passing game. This board will be abuzz with a slew of "WE NEED BRANDON MARSHALL!!!1!!" threads all offseason, but I think Tony Scheffler would be a better bargain than Marshall.

The problem with our safeties is that they're the same type of player. Yeremiah is workable provided he stays healthy, but Gerbil has been absolute trash at all aspects of the game. We need a QB of the secondary at FS, not a Yeremiah clone.
