I read the title of the front page article and to blame this loss and quite possibly the other two is a huge mistake. I think that you may wanna take a look at the state of the NFL today... did anyone see the scores today, not many defensive struggles right. It is real hard to win with the philsophy we have used for the last 19 regular season games. Last year was a product of a perfect storm. We played good enough defense, ran the ball ok, and passed ok, the main key was that we played almost perfect ball in the turnover, 3rd down conversion, and penalty categories. This year we have made these mistakes and when you play conservative run first offense mistakes cannot be made.

So my point, I am still happy with the REBUILDING process our run D is nice, Our O line is fresh and we our young and fairly talented. We just played great ball last year and it resulted in a great season and those happen, and we can still have a good year because we are a better team but it is time to release the harness.

The DB's are constantly getting burned because the pass rush is non existent

DB's get burned because they suck. Pass rush is average and would of been better today if Porter wasnt taken out. The teams with the most INTs has the same amount of sacks as us. Our DB's are just complete trash and can't stop the pass.

There is no pass rush. None whatsoever. Taylor has been gash, Porter has been gash. The front three can stop the run but at the expense of allowing every QB the time to set up for the pass. The safeties cannot defend the deep ball. They give no protection whatsoever to the corners and the average pass is getting longer and longer. The safeties cannot cover the tight ends. crowder cannot cover his lap with a knapkin and is as much use in coverage as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest. The corners are not that bad and two of the passes last night were perfection otherwise they would have been broken up. You can bleat on about the safeties and corners being at fault and to a degree the safeties are whoefull at the moment but if we give every QB the time to set and release we will get tore apart. Did anyone see Crowder on the Rivers score. He dropped into coverage by looking away from the QB and being sucked into the tight end leaving a huge hole. That was also down to the play calling. It was a bad call to have your MLB in man on the tight end at the goal line.

The Defense has faced 3 of the best offenses in the NFL so far. But I agree that the Secondary can't cover a wet blanket right now it seems. I think with the great 2008 season last year it put rose colored glasses on all of us. We lost sight that this team is still rebuilding and is still 1-2 years away from being a contender. We take our lumps this year I believe and come back stronger next year. Henne will now get to show us all if he's the man to take the wheel or not. From what I saw yesterday he has a long road in front of him.

sacks aren't quite as important as just consistently pressuring the qb, making him throw it before he wants to, and hitting him whenever you can.....even if you don't get a sack out of it. jets don't have that many sacks....but our pass rush is pretty ferocious and it works.

1-18 with the "Ballerina" and 11-5 without him.... just a thought

From what I have seen, Smith and Bell have thoroughly outplayed Allen and Wilson. Will Allen was Vincent Jackson's little bi*ch yesterday. If Allen wsn't getting scorched by Jackson, he was getting called for some kind of penalty. Why we are allowing him to stay on the field ahead of Davis is well beyond me. We have the opportunity to get our younger players a lot of reps without a serious drop in productivity. Henne, Davis and Culver/Clemmons should start next week regardless of the health status of their veteran counterparts.

You hit the nail on the head. I think Smith and Bell have done a respectable job against the very talented WR and TE that they have faced. However, Wilson, Allen, and Crowder have been TOAST way too regularly. The middle of our defense is way too soft against the pass and we are being eaten alive. As you stated, these are 3 great offenses but we got smoked when it counted in all 3 games.

Our secondary and our linebackers are trash. Watch Phillip Rivers take a hike right up the vacant middle of the field for a TD and tell me defense isn't a problem.

G Wilson is always there I fell like he goes for the big hit you know a highlight. Instead of making an average tackle... Dont know he was high priced. I am starting to miss R Hill

The middle linebackers and safeties have been a liability in every game so far.

They still haven't figured out how to cover the TE.

I don't understand how there can be so many plays where the middle linebackers are both no where near the middle of the field.
