But the Dolphins also will go into the game ranked second in total defense and second in pass defense.

“It’s going to be fun,” safety Reshad Jones said. “It’s a challenge. We know we have to face one of the toughest offenses in the National Football League.

“This what you play the game for, these type of games. I think it’s going to be a great atmosphere, great time of the season. It’s our time to go out, make our plays and make a statement.”
Denver’s previous lowest scoring output this season had been 20 points in the 26-20 overtime loss at Seattle. At home, the Broncos haven’t scored less than 24 points while averaging 34.6 points in their five games.

“It’s always a task to go out there and face Peyton Manning, but at the same time we’ve got to go out there and be ready to play a football game,” said cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who faced Manning for five seasons while he played for Tennessee and Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts. “It’s an AFC opponent, they’re at home, they’re great at home, he’s great at home and they’ve got weapons. It’ll be a great test for us.”

Defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle was on his couch watching the Broncos struggle against the Rams and came away impressed with the job turned in by the St. Louis defense.
The way Finnegan sees things, what the Rams did could serve as a blueprint in terms of bending but not breaking.

“They’re dynamic at home, so we’ve got to try to limit their points,” Finnegan said. “This game you can’t really look at (rankings). What we’re most concerned about is just points. They’re going to get yards, they’re going to move the football no matter who’s in the game, but can we limit them to field goals? Can we keep them off the scoreboard with touchdowns? We have to limit their points. Yards really won’t matter this game. Statistical things won’t even matter this game. It’s just, can we limit their points?”
“You’re playing a veteran guy like Peyton Manning, you’ve got to disguise,” Jones said. “You can’t show him what we’re running, what defensive call we’ve got going on and you’re going to have to play fundamental, sound football, play your technique and do your job. We’re going to count on every man to step up and make plays.”

Linebacker Philip Wheeler, who played with Manning with the Colts and against him when he was with the Oakland Raiders, is looking forward to the battle between the No. 2 pass offense and the No. 2 defense.

“On paper it looks pretty good,” Wheeler said. “It looks like an even matchup. We’ve just got to go out there and compete and show why we’re No. 2.”
