with big, fast and strong players like Tj McDonald, Raekwon McMillan, Tony Charles Harris, Stephone Anthony, and Godsheaux adding to the mix next year I'm excited to see what Burke can do. Look at this article and you get a sense of what our defensive coordinator is shooting for when he doesn't have to count on aging mentally unstable players. I know a lot of the so called experts think Anthony can't grasp the playbook but I think for his limited time here, he looked pretty good. Like the kind of guy who gives maximum effort. I'd much rather have a guy that when he makes a mistake it's made at 100 mph and it can be corrected. I can work with that (especially if it's at the OLB spot). Imagine if Burke gets a defense of 11 guys, big, fast and strong at every position and every one of them players who hit like a freight train every play. THAT's how you build a great defense. Add these guys to your defensive stars/leaders - wake & Suh. you can work with Alonso, Branch, and tankersly who are high character guys who can adjust.

Our bad to mediocre CB play is crippling the whole defense. If they can acquire a complete player to be our number 1 CB then half the battle is won.

If McCain continues to improve and Tankersley can take a sophomore leap we could have a top ten defense next year. If we had a new coordinator running a better defensive scheme we could be top five. I like Tony Lippett to compete with Tankersley, but the Dolphins need an elite shutdown CB. At least on one boundary.

Chase Allen and Raekwon McMillan need to be starting next year. The Kiko contract is an enormous stumbling block to the progress of this defense. They really need to just cut him and take their losses. That would take a new FO and coaching staff.

Like I posted before, a new GM like Wolf from Green Bay, a new head coach,OC, and a DC like Todd Bowles and this defense could be awesome, but a lot of changes have to be made.

I am encouraged by the solid plays I have seen from Chase Allen, but he still has a long way to go.

I get a niggling feeling that Gase might have quietly started the rebuilding process here in Dolphin land, we got a lot of young bucks on this team and the older guys are stop gap guys.....lot of 1 and 2 year contract. With another solid draft or two we should be good.

I’m not getting my hopes up. TannenBUM in the front office....

We need a damn playmaker, I haven't seen one of our guys take over a game since ZT/JT days. I want a stud lb, be it mike, sam or weak or a de that gets to Brady ...a stud!

Miami needs a new defensive scheme/philosophy. What they're running is ineffective, and hardly different from what they ran under Coyle and Joseph. (The same can be said for the offense; it's like Philbin and Lazor are still here!)

Their is still a major problem with our awful lack of pass rush. Also what is making our CB's look even worse as they have to cover for so damn long. And we need to spend most of our picks on the offense this draft.

Wake is clearly a step or 2 slower which allows more focus on Suh. Not much of a pass rush from LBs.

The FO needs to stop thinking that they need to "keep their own" unless they're worth keeping. I think they went too far with that and gave out contracts that players didn't deserve. NE has a motto......they'd rather get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late..........we seem to like keeping older players a couple of years too late and many people on this board think that's a good idea. How many times people here say that "Wake needs to retire a dolphin"? WHY does he have to? I'd rather trade older players for picks and keep talent coming in instead of watching players not being very productive for their last year or two and then get nothing for them. Everything that's wrong with our team starts at the top. Horrible decision after decision by horrible people in charge

Ozzy rules!!

One of the positives from a bad season is that Miami has a chance to pick pretty high and land a difference maker in the draft.

My hope is the team can get an outstanding defensive player and then concentrate on fixing the offensive line. There are a number of corners who would be upgrades if the Dolphins want to go that way. Jackson on Iowa is flying up most draft boards and he could be right in the Dolphins range. An athletic linebacker early is another possibility, but we have rarely seen Miami pick a linebacker in R1.

Every offseason feels like a critical one and this one is no exception. Miami can go either way. A great draft/FA period and the team could easily contend next season. On the other hand, Buffalo and the New York Jets have an opportunity to overtake the Dolphins as well.

Will hopefully be run by Todd Bowles

Like Billy Turner, our aspirations need to be higher than Chase Allen. Don't try to force a positive if it's not there. There were too many plays in preseason and the one last week in which Allen looks like he's stuck in mud while runners or even quarterbacks fly past him.

I'll stick with my summary that he looks like a player from the Dave Campo Cowboys. Hard trying, somewhat instinctive and you want to root for him, but simply not an athletic match for this league.

IMO, one of the worst possible outcomes over the final six games would be for Chase Allen to flash some plays and fool the coaching staff and front office into believing they have something.

Well if we had that we'd have the best defense in the history of the nfl... I like it, let's just ignore how unrealistic the thought is. I don't happen to think that only the players are to blame for the crappy defensive play, the defensive scheme has sucked also...
