Where is all the Defensive pre snap motion we all saw last year to confuse the offense? I have seen very little of it this season, just seems like we are not flying around the field like last season.

It’s almost like we don’t have our #2 CB on the field so people are playing positions they didn’t last year…

I was thinking the same...we did do it last week but not last night

Very true that Jones will help get back to how we play, but it's concerning that being down one player can totally disrupt your defense. A good defense is versatile and can cover up for one player being out. What happened to all the creativity with pressure and movement?

That's a very good question. It's almost like it was really Flores and not Boyer that was responsible for the defense last year. The defense this season as not even looked close to the same as last season. I don't think it's all about Byron Jones being out either.

Just like how being down one player is going to disrupt our offense…

Apparently, the success thus far has been nothing but luck and "smoke and mirrors". The upgraded o-line isn't much better at all, the running game we were expecting hasn't materialized, and the defense is one-dimensional; they can stop the run, cut down on big passing plays, or attack the QB, but they can only do one of these per game.

The defense thus far this season reminds me of the first 9 games of the season last year not that last is all I am trying to get at. Offensively I think McDaniel is covering up a lot of our problem areas. I also have no idea who was responsible for our defense the second half of last season but we are four games in now and are not flying all over the field like we where last year I loved watching that defense this group of guys is getting little to absolutely zero pass rush aside from a few plays a game

Just seems like we did such a good job last year disguising the guys blitzing with all the movement this year they seem to just line up and rush
The fact Byron Jones has been out the first four games and Howard just hasn’t been himself because of the groin injury has a lot to do with how ineffective the pass rush has been this year.

Jones and Howard usually do a great job in coverage and that means the QB has to hold the ball longer, giving the rushers more time to get to the QB. Howard has seemed to be a step slower this year and QB’s don’t seem to fear throwing in his direction anymore.

The young CB’s have played well at times but many people don’t understand how much better this defense is when both Jones and Howard are healthy and able to play.

guys, we are 3-1, we beat Buff and Balt, our D is ok. How many 3rd/4th and shorts have we stopped? I expect it will get even better as players return.

I agree with that, but the QBs aren't holding the ball 1.5 sec. longer. They have time to watch a 'Mash' rerun. Yes, we need X and Jones back, but that pass rush has to improve.
