The Dolphins have a better defense but opposing teams will still try to air it out against the Dolphins like they have in the past few years. Especially now that the Fins have a better pass rush with Roth and Porter crushing QB's and with better LB coverage and play teams will not throw underneath as much and throw intermediate and long receiving routes. So the Dolphins Corner backs and Safeties must step up their game and make a lot of interceptions and plays to get the Dolphins offense the ball. Go Dolphins in 2007.:ninja::evil::ninja::evil::ninja:

yeah, and we need to make them all grow about 4 inches as well.

can we make that happen?

Teams will not be running as many deep routes as you would think. Deep routes take time to develop meaning the QB is likely going to take a 7 step drop, which is going to make it harder to stop Porter and Taylor off the edge. So teams will take their shots no doubt, but unless they either want their QB to get killed, or think that the have a line that rivals the Cowboys line from the 90's they will take shots sparingly at the deep ball.

they wont go deep as much as you think because of the pass rush but dont think that it is right that our leading man in picks was Jason taylor i know he is a beast but that says some thing about our Secondary so i think we sould do what we can to get landry if he is there and if not Brandon Meriweather in the econd round

i like our current secondary...... all it lacks is some playmaking ability IMO.......... hopefully Jason Allen is the Ball-hawk we'd hoped. Either at CB or Safety. I think had Tillman not played last season our secondary would be considered much better.....

Hey believe it or not, as bad as our passing offense was........ we allowed even less passing yards !!!!!! By adding Goodman, Hill, and Both
Allens we really put ourselves in a good situation and i see our secondary improving from last year.

Commentary: The Dolphins' Secondary

Here's one of FH's own featured with an article about the Dolphins' secondary. Read it here.

Here's an excerpt:

Some would argue against this position, but I believe there is a log jam at both the corner and safety positions. There are 4 starting spots and essentially 6 players gunning for those 4 positions. At cornerback, Will Allen all but has a starting spot locked up as he is the best talent on the team at his position. Allen has lightning speed, tackles extremely well, and is aggressive and physical. The knock on Allen has been his inability to make plays on the ball and actually make the interception when given the opportunity. He struggled at time in 2006 against some of the league's elite receivers but is perfectly suited to match up against a team's number 2 receiver. Unfortunately, Miami doesn't have the luxury of a shutdown number 1 to counter Allen, so he is matched up with the best the majority of the time. The support Allen provides against the run is tremendous and should not be overlooked. He fit Capers scheme quite nicely as a guy who can defend the run and not many do it better than Will Allen does.

Check out the full article and then tell us your thoughts. Interetsing stuff....

Jason Taylor was tied for the team lead with 2 Ints... Great for JT, but I would much rather have someone in the secondary take the stat this year!

Assuming everyone stays healthy, our secondary should look better this year. it was a lot of guys' first year learning the system, so those guys should be noticeably better this year (Goodman, Will and Jason Allen). Also, Travis D. should be back at full strength an speed from last year's ankle injury. Finally, the coaching staff will probably let Y. Bell play more this year than last year, since he is a playmaker.

Overall, barring injuries, this secondary will play better football this year. They are NOT the best secondary in the AFC by a LOOONG shot, so don't expect too much, but they WILL play better than last year.

experience alone should help, TD should be healthy at the start an JA should be ready to go.

this was sabans D last year an it was always said that learnin it was difficult, especially the secondary. double edged sword here but you would like dom to simplify it but you dont want the players to lose the familiarity

Trade down with Pittsburgh to the 15th slot so they can take Willis or Levi Brown, and then again with San Diego to the 30 th slot so they can take Robert Meachem, and pick up 4 picks, 3 this year,, 1 next. With the 30th pick draft Michael Griffin S, with the 40th draft Jonathan Wade CB. With the 46th,60th, and 62nd draft OL. Grubbs,Sears,Blaylock,Khalil,Satele,Ugoh,Free,Marten

With our improved secondary we are a top three defense.

With our vastly improved OL, especially if we get Blaylock,Free, and Satele, our rushing game may actually live up to some of these wild fantasies I've been reading about.

numbers talk......we need a playmaker in the backfield: CB Daymeion Hughes in the 3rd and S Marvin White in the 4th......they've got great ball skills and will improve our secondary.
:nesucks:

Step up their games? In some areas like on 3rd downs, making better plays on the ball and making the interception when the opportunity arises.

You don't finished 5th in passing defense with just a pass rush.

Good thread... The whole point of our front 7 is to apply pressure to the pocket and keep the oppossing offense from developing the big plays... Teams will have a tough time stopping our pass rush but you know they're bound to have at least 1 or 2 games where the team has a good scheme against us. In that situation our secondary will have to come up big in man to man coverage. Point being that I don't think they'll need to really step up for more then a couple games. Other than that the front 7 should make them look good, just catch the ball when it hits your hands.
