Dolphins scouts and front-office officials are in to Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl this week, amping up the process of trying to upgrade what was, in terms of yards allowed, the worst defense in team history.
And one thing is becoming clear: The Dolphins, with the 22nd overall pick, are likely going to have a choice of a bunch of skilled front-seven defensive players that are similarly rated. While ESPN’s Mel Kiper
has the Dolphins selecting UF linebacker Jarrad Davis with the 22nd pick in his first mock draft, other evaluators are advocating Miami select other defensive players that are emerging as strong candidates for that selection:

• NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has the Dolphins choosing 6-5, 243-pound Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Watt, who had 11.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss, one interception and two forced fumbles last season.
“Watt isn't as freaky as his older brother, [Houston Texans star J.J. Watt], but he is a very good football player,” Jeremiah said. “He is ultra-versatile, athletic and instinctive.”

• Pro Football Focus’ Steve Palazzolo, who covers the college game closely, has the Dolphins selecting 6-3, 255-pound Missouri defensive end Charles Harris (nine sacks, two forced fumbles last season).
“Harris adds a pass-rushing threat after finishing 12th among the nation’s edge rushers with an 88.2 pass-rush grade,” Palazzolo said. “Armed with the best spin move in college football, Harris has been one of the nation’s
best pass-rushers the last two years, though there is some work to be done to improve his work in the run game.

QUICK LANDRY NOTE
• Eyebrows were raised this week when Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry posted on Instagram: “I feed my family with this. Don’t play with my money this year. I’m serious.”
But according to agent Damarius Bilbo, this wasn’t a case of Landry, who’s due to earn $1.1 million next season in the final year of his rookie contract, pressuring Miami for a new deal.
Bilbo said Landry was referencing lyrics from a (Drake) song and not talking about a new contract.According to a team source, the Dolphins are expected to offer Landry a multi-year contract this offseason.

You arent lying charles harris needs a lot of work in the run game...bernardrick mckinney is more stiff than zach cunningham and he needs to test better than mckinney who has somewhat limited range

id love to get solomon thomas but i think thats highly unlikely given the base de and kick inside sub...his bowl game tape should get him drafted top 15 by itself

with oj howard out of reach probably does have to focus entirely on defense at 22

im not big on derek barnett think hes more the base de type dont see real high end quick twitch tools for edge pass rush nor do i think the wide 9 is the right fit...more traditional de...miami could look at him as the mario williams type fill i just dont think hes sudden enough...lacks williams size too

Tim willams looks more the situational rusher out the gate type to me...hes got the frame to add weight but i dont think you can ask him to play every down out the gate in the 43 at least...maybe as a wolb in the 34

LOL and this deserves a thread with 18 pages? Only on Finheaven.

Daniel Jerimiah kind of ignored us. Watt is fun, but he is 3-4 Olb who needs a lot of polish. It's very unlikely for us who need a starter this year who stops the run, can cover, and then provide a pass rush. He also had the Browns choosing a MLB even though they just resigned Collins.

Tj watt as a strong side backer on early downs would be a lot of projection...looks too much like a project to me...got to like that 6 foot 5 frame though...i cant imagine miami views that as an every down de in its scheme at that weight

Be a much easier projection as a 34 olb long term...may grow into a strong side 34 olb ideal fit

Could test well enough for a weakside 34 olb projection i suppose but that 6 foot 5 frame assuming its legit and his youth plus his genes might make for a dynamite strong sider down the road

You started a thread saying he's gonna be there at our pick and we're going to take him. Why are you so certain of this?

I don't know what we will do, I'm just wishful thinking.... But I think he is going to be there.

We might take another Zach but thought Cunningham was an OLB, I'd like to get a MLB from free agency.

A better question is why are you hijacking threads and restating he same post over and over?

Sign Donald butler, leave Alonso in the middle, draft raekwon McMillan in the 2nd. Oh yeah and draft pat Elflein at 22.

Cunningham is a Mike

And you will be hard pressed to find a Mike in free agency. You could overpay Hightower I guess

Well to be fair, most of the people getting their panties in a bunch about it were the "get off my lawn" types...
