This is not a defend Penny thread, this is what I see and what many others are pointing out that is obvious to many of us.

Both Atlanta and the Colts defensive backs played us soft not letting our receivers get behind them. IMO the obvious reason for this is that we don't have a game breaking receiver who is going to break a tackle and get through or a big receiver that we could throw the ball up for grabs. We need a game breaker, a receiver who can break tackle someone who is going to punish the defensive backs. If I am not mistaken if its Penny's arm wouldn't they b e playing tight knowing Penny couldn't throw to a receiver who could get by them. For example, if we had a Fitzgerald or a Johnson type receiver who was big and punishing that could hurt a secondary playing back that would make a major difference.

CBs playing off mostly have to do with if they have help over the top, they'll play tight if they have a safety over the top, but will generally play off when they have no help

What I see it as is the defenses are bringing a safety up in the box to stop the run because they don't need to cover deep, so the corners play off

I can see that but if you play back like that how can you get a receiver behind them, wouldn't a big receiver who can take advantage of so many short cornerbacks make a big difference? or a receiver who can take a slant pattern and break a tackle and go. Has anyone seen one of our receiver break a tackle yet?
