The one thing that I don't understand about this franchise is how so many different coaches, GMs, and even owners can continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. Signing Garrard and giving him an opportunity to compete for the starting job is an absolute joke. Yet, it seems so familiar. No matter who the head coach is, or who the GM is, or if it is Huizenga or Ross, we constantly look for other teams' castoffs.
Wannstedt took over and decided he needed a never-was Jay Fiedler, who was not going to start for any other teams in the NFL based upon a few mop-up appearances for Jacksonville. Then he decided another backup QB was even better and gave up a 2nd round pick for AJ Feeley. Speilman & Huizenga went along with this idiocy.
Then Saban comes in and signs Gus Frerotte, another never-was. Frerotte was almost respectable, but Saban needed another team's trash and decided Culpepper, coming off of a horrific knee injury, was an even better idea.
Then Cam Cameron comes in and decides we need a concussed Trent Green. Randy Mueller and Huizenga go along with that idea.
Sparano, Ireland, and Parcells come in and draft a question mark in Henne, but then decide an even more brilliant move is to sign a perpetually injured Pennington after the Jets finally had their fill of dealing with his constant injuries. Surprisingly enough, this one was a respectable move...for one season. And then Pennington went right back to being hurt.
Now we have another new coach...and another trash QB that was dumped by another franchise. Amazing.
How can Wannstedt, Saban, Cameron, Sparano, Philbin, Spielman, Mueller, Ireland/Parcells, Huizenga, and Ross all make the same mistakes repeatedly? How is it that not one of these clowns decided once and for all to draft a QB in the first round?
