Demps now wants to play in the NFL

Rainey showed that he could take a pass out of the backfield and score in space against the Eagles camp scrubs, but he also showed that he can't run between the tackles. His 4 carries for 1 yard looked just like he did trying to run against an elite SEC defense. He averaged 0.85 yards per carry for his career against Alabama.

Neither of those speedy goobers from Florida were effective RB's against a defense like Alabama's where they can't outrun the defense to the perimeter, and won't be effective at RB in the NFL. I didn't like either one in terms of giving a draftable grade.

However, I don't see any downside to signing Demps and letting him compete to bolster the return game. He's a good kid and is obviously in peak condition as we speak. It's a no risk move. Give me kids like this to pull for over trash like Chad Johnson anyday.

How many running backs did have good games against Bama in the last couple of seasons?

For the record...how many running backs WERE effective against Alabama? Bit harsh of a standard, no?

Be still my beating heart. Hell just froze over.

Rainey has already shown he can do some things at the RB position for the Steelers, and one guy posts Demps running against Olympic athlete's as a knock on him when in reality very few NFL players would have even come close to competing in that same exact race. Demps did really good things at Florida, and I agree he is not an every down back. Against Tennessee Urban Meyer gave him over 20 carries in a game and he was never the same the rest of the season. The NFL is becoming more and more about speed, and without question Demps would be the fastest player in the league the minute he laced up some cleats on grass. You can't tell me there ain't no value in that.

Speed kills. '

Demps and Rainy's last season was a waste. The Gators had zero passing game and those two undersized backs had to carry the team.

But now that Slimm brought it up, it's a point I was going to make, that at least with Demps versus Rainey, you don't have to worry about him sending text messages with threats of murder to his girlfriends. I don't think.

Tauren Poole and the "Lawfirm" (Benjarvus Green-Ellis).... that's about it.

My point is more along the lines that the reason Florida's offense hasn't competed in the SEC since Tim Tebow turned pro is because they lost the ability to run between the tackles when he left. You can't run sideways with a stable of backs who go down at the hint of a stiff breeze and compete in the SEC.

There were scatbacks of the smaller variety who I graded higher than Rainey or Demps. Most of 'em are showing up in the preseason although there's obviously only been one game. I'd be keeping an eye out if any of them are let go or get caught up in a numbers game at the RB position.

As a Gator fan, I would rather have Demps than Rainey. Demps was damn near unstoppable in KO returns, has great hands, and has experience in lining up in the slot.
