Demps now wants to play in the NFL

---------- Post added at 01:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:56 PM ----------

That was my point "he helped his team get a silver medal" not "he got a silver medal" behind Usain Bolt.
I said he got a silver medal...which he did. I never even brought up Usain Bolt or what race he ran in. Anyways...it doesn't matter

Really, I live next to a die-hard gator fan that swears Rainey is a seriously under estimated Back. He absolutely hates Demps, says he has NO laterally agility only straight line speed. Concluding he would be a waste on any NFL roster.

Rainey is more of a wide receiver than a true tailback. He'll run screen plays from a tailback position for the Steelers, he'll be split out to the slot, and he'll handle some return duties. I doubt he'll get a bunch of carries as a tailback. Demps is more of a true tailback. And no offense to your neighbor, but unless you live next to Urban Meyer, I think I'll trust my own evaluations over some random neighbor whose resume appears to be headlined by "diehard Gators fan". No offense to you or your neighbor intended.

One of the fastest dudes in the country. Even with pads on.

Kid is Q U I C K.

Punt returns and kickoffs...why not.

However, this kid has a small frame. No way could he be an every down back. He's not built like Ray Rice.

But this kid has elite NFL speed.

He's got the same issue as Lamar Miller...built for track, not football. You can work on that. Lamar Miller already has.

Can't coach speed. Would immediately be arguably the fastest man in the NFL. He was always faster than Rainey, IMO.

Yeah I mean all he did was help the USA team break a 20 year national record and get into the finals of the Olympics. No big deal.

Tsk Tsk no need getting it in a bunch...The premise of that post has been clarified.

The post you're disagreeing with is accurate though. He EARNED a silver medal, and it arguably would've been gold if not for Usain Bolt.

Already agreed. Onto more serious business are we going to see some serious improvement from Sean Smith this year? So far.....It looks like he and Vontea may end up being former Dolphins

Probably because he got smoked during his Olympic tryouts.. He was Second to last, oh btw the guy in last place was already hurt.

You mean dead last if you don't count Dix who ran with a pulled hamstring. I was on the track team in HS when Dix was at Coral Springs. He has unreal speed-- hope he stays healthy enough for another shot at the Olympics. /OT

Why bring that up in a Demps thread?

I've watched ever game Demps and Rainey have played in and I'd rather have Demps. He's more of a rb than Rainey and is indeed faster. I'm not saying he can be an every down back but he's capable of carrying the ball 10 times a game. The dude is awesome in open space and can cut on a dime.

Why not? He adds exciting speed to the offense and aren't we looking for difference makers? Demps could do that. I do understand we are likely set at running back, but Reggie Bush's contract is up at the end of the year. Who knows if the team will sign him long-term. Anyone think Demps might be able to transition to wide receiver?

Neither of those speedy goobers from Florida were effective RB's against a defense like Alabama's where they can't outrun the defense to the perimeter, and won't be effective at RB in the NFL. I didn't like either one in terms of giving a draftable grade.

However, I don't see any downside to signing Demps and letting him compete to bolster the return game. He's a good kid and is obviously in peak condition as we speak. It's a no risk move. Give me kids like this to pull for over trash like Chad Johnson anyday.

Rainey has already shown he can do some things at the RB position for the Steelers, and one guy posts Demps running against Olympic athlete's as a knock on him when in reality very few NFL players would have even come close to competing in that same exact race. Demps did really good things at Florida, and I agree he is not an every down back. Against Tennessee Urban Meyer gave him over 20 carries in a game and he was never the same the rest of the season. The NFL is becoming more and more about speed, and without question Demps would be the fastest player in the league the minute he laced up some cleats on grass. You can't tell me there ain't no value in that.
