I know Marino has nothing to do with the organization anymore, but I sure hope he helps out a little bit in this. The Elway thing seemed to be a major factor.
Denver has upwards of $50 Million in cap space

How does Denver have so much money under the cap? I thought teams had to spend at least 90% of the cap last year. Even in letting some vets go, which I don't know if they have, that's alot of money to have under the cap. Anyone know the dynamics of how they got to that figure?

This is something that is beginning to bother me a little. Why doesn't he want to be a part of the organization anymore? He has been asked twice, once in an official role which he accepted and then resigned immediately and then recently as an advisor but said no to that. Then reading quotes from him about Manning he refused to pitch Miami but just stated that wherever Manning goes he will make them a winner. I see other greats pitching their teams but not usually Marino. It is quite troublesome to me.

I don't know... I just wish he would help sell us a little bit. The fans have suffered enough for crying out loud. Help us out a bit.
Hint: Marino's actually a Dbag (from those I know who have spent time with him). He also despised the ownership since Huizenga. Given all that, why would he help make other people rich?
On the PM front:
Our ace-in-the hole is a multiyear incentive-laden contract, wherein your cap space is preserved over time. The phins are in the best position structurally and philosophically (they really need an HOF qb like right now) to give that to Manning imo. It'll be near 20m/year but it'll likely be a longer contract than other teams would offer and with more bells and whistles. Also remember Peyton expects it to be performance-based.
It's a gamble on Ross' part only with regards to cap-space. But, with regard to reinvigorating the franchise and putting fans in the seat, it's a goddamned no-brainer. Any ass that can do the maths knows there's a helluva lot more to gain with Manning than lose, even if he's still injured. Also do not forget, players like Manning tend to make scoring other players CHEAPER... as guys like Wayne, Carter, Faulk, etc. point out repeatedly. In the end, Ross stands to possibly save quite a bit of cap space overall by signing Peyton. Wayne and Saturday would come cheap and we can dump those who wont restructure, etc.
i.e. serious teams dont have to pay as much for serious players. And the best way for the phins to look 'serious' right now is signing Manning.
You guys feelin me on this? It's not complicated.
Back to Marino, you can expect him to make some return to the franchise once they start winning again and stop screwin' around in the front-office. Having Manning will also help this. Bandwagon and all that.
