DEPTH CHART: Position by Position

I think Saban could keep Pearson if Toledo misses action. Decent veteran OT's don't come by often. The OL is our weak-link on offense so guys are greatly needed there.

Of the guys he lists as still battling, I think Deke Cooper, Zgonina, Berger, Vick, Gibson, Aromashodu, Harris, Barnes, Labinjo, and Newman will find their way onto the roster or at least the practice squad.

This guy seems pretty accurate to me.

It seems like a pretty accurate list of things as they stand today.

Pearson doesn't seem to have recovereed from his injury. I think he will call it quits on his career when the turk visits him in a couple of weeks.

I think it comes down to one spot that several different positions are battling for. I have:
3 qbs
5 rbs
5 wrs
3 tes
9 ol
9 dl
6 lbs
9 dbs
3 st
That totals 52, leaving one spot. I think that decision will come down to whether we want an extra wr, ol, or dl. My guess is that it the players fighting for that spot are wrs Russel and Vick, ol Smith and Berger and dl Vickerson and Zgonina. My prediction is that barring a Zgonina trade both dl make it. If Zgonina is traded then I think both ol make it. Of course, a week ago I would have said Vick, but watching MM's calls I'm not sure we plan to use 4 wrs sets enough to warrant a 6th receiver.

Suprised by the Newman and Pearson cuts. Other than that, his guess is identical to my estimations.

No 7th LB?

I was thinking there'd be another LB too but maybe JT will count as a DE... Saban likes LBs who play special teams. I think he'd have 10 of them if he thought he could cover the other positions.

Here is what I have for the regular season depth chart going into the Carolina preseason game:

Offense

QB: Culpepper, Harrington, Lemon
RB: Brown, Morris, Minor, Beasley, Barnes
WR: Chambers, Booker, Welker, Hagan, Vick, Russell or Gibson or Campbell
TE: McMichael, Peelle, Rader
OL: Hadnot, James, Anderson, Shelton, Carey, McIntosh, Alabi, Toledo, McKinney or Smith or Pape or Berger (2 of these 4)

Defense

DL: Taylor, Holiday, Wilkinson, Traylor, Carter, Bowens, Roth, Evans, Zgonina or Vickerson
LB: Thomas, Crowder, Spragan, Hodge, Pope, Newman or Labinjo
DB: W. Allen, J. Allen, Tillman, Bell, Hill, Daniels, Goodman, Mitchell or Cooper or Hunt or Jackson
ST: Mare, Jones, Denney

I think Vick will probably make the team to help return kicks and punts with Welker, if he keeps improving over the next two games. Kelly Campbell is in extreme jeopardy of not making the team. There are a few guys in the secondary that are really close. It is tough to call who will be the backups.

Edit: I went back and read the Marvez depth chart after I wrote mine. My only question is: What has Lehan done in the secondary to separate him from the rest?

the way Gibson is playing he might make the team, he was playing with Harrington in the last game. which would mean he makes the team. anyone playing with Lemon in there likely won't make the team
