Many people thought this was a weak pick. Being a seminole fan, I was hoping miami would pick Boldin but instead they ended up picking Eddy "bleep" Moore. As I came to dissapointment I started reading reports of Boldin from different sources and they had him posted as an average receiver when in fact he wasn't. One of the things that boldin had as a receiver in college was that he "was lazy coming off the line". These same reports are comparable to the reports by Derek Hagan during the draft. Many scouts label it this way as a huge problem but they don't see it as a coachable mistake. Scouts overlabel receivers like this a lot when in fact, some receivers do this to position themselves better on the field or just feel more comfortable running slow off the line to overpower the defensive back. In the end, Anquan Boldin came out as one of the best receivers in his Rookie season and managed to overcome those setbacks by being coached through them by the staff.

What I see in Derek Hagan is a similar playing style to Boldin. When I saw him in training camp the other day, I could see how much he improved and the work that coaches are doing with him. He puts his everything in training camp and accepts critiques very well from the coaches and manages to do what they ask of him. I'm so impressed by his receiving skills and the way he positions himself to make a catch. Hopefully this young man will be one of the best receivers in the afc along with chambers.

If you say they look similar in how they play, I'll take your word for it...but I'll tell you one thing that is not similar and that is their athletic abilities. On the track and in shorts, these guys are night and day.

I don't like how Derek Hagan's got this reputation as if he doesn't have athletic ability. He genuinely tested out as one of the top athletes among all WRs at the Combine. He wasn't quite in the same class as Aromashodu or Chad Jackson, but he was just a short step down.

Anquan Boldin to this day remains one of the biggest athletic enigmas of all time among receivers...way more so than Jerry Rice.

Yeah, I don't see the comparison athletically at all, and Hagen is very fast off the line scrimmage, that was one of things Saban noted about him was his 10 yard split time.

Yeah but he did get a gander of Hagan at camp and he's an FSU fan so he's familiar with Boldin and if they look similar in body language then they look similar. I mean, Boldin gets described as a Terrell Owens type of player at the position, and the Hagan comparisons to Owens have been pretty evident. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Hagan and Boldin look similar the way they play.

Just saying athletically Hagan has tremendous ability to get off the line, and has tremendous speed and athleticism.

Yes I agree, if I'm not mistaken didn't Boldin run a 4.7 40 at his combine or Pro day?

I see a lot of Rod Smith in Hagen from what I've seen.

That's what many see in Hagan.

Yes Boldin ran a 4.7 and his other agility measurements were terrible too. That's why he remains one of the biggest athletic enigmas I've ever seen.

They remind me of each other in a way. I guess the way they were both underated. Derek Hagan I a good athlete I also don't know where he got that reputation but scouts have been proven wrong from time to time. I expect Booker to step down this season and Hagan to take over him. I prefer a younger and productive receiver at the 2 spot.

I see some Rod Smith and a little bit of Keyshawn Johnson.

I just hope Hagan is still being compared to Boldin's 1st and 2nd year after Hagan's second year in the league...

I don't care who he is compared to, just as long as he can catch balls and score Touchdowns to help us win!!!

Well, i'm glad to be reading the things i'm ready from you guys on Hagan, because of all of our draft picks, he's been the one that concerns me the most as far as how he might be able to contribute to this team. I have seen the video of him and such, but for some reason I just keep having a bad feeling. But reading what i'm reading from CK and you guys, i'm feeling a little bit better about it. Crossing my fingers he's able to really do some things in the passing game.
