Hey everyone

I didnt get to see many games last year, but the ones I did see....I was very impressed with Langford and Merling as our DE's. Even when we had Rod Wright, he was impressive too.

I see many mock drafts have us taking DE real high, and many people here are praising many DE's to pick. My question to anyone who saw these guys play, do u really think DE is a big need for us right now? Or is OLB/NT a bigger need?

Did Merling/Langford impress you all enough? Or do you think we definitely need more DE's to compete. From what i saw, i think we just need linebackers and nose tackles. But i saw only a few games.

the DEs you see in the mock is DE/OLB... DEs in college are 3-4 OLB 9 times out of ten. so really you are seeing LBs... but i think langford and merling are gonna be great starters throughout the years

I still think were onna take a de in the draft but I do like Langford and Merling.

maybe the idea of Larry English in the 1st and Clint Sintim in the 2nd, is a good idea.

Porter is great, but at the end of the season, teams had him figured out and stopped him.

I was impressed with them as well, but I think we would choose a DE early in hopes of converting him to a 3-4 outside linebacker. Even if that doesn't work a large group of DE's doesn't hurt (Look at the Giants DL)!

No question Langford and Merling are young studs. Also, when Starks was in the game, he made his presence felt. I'm looking forward to the rest of this FA period to see what areas we improve in. Looks like we willl be in a position to truely draft BPA this year.

What they really figured out is that we have nobody else that's going to get to the passer so unless you have a most dominanat LT, your going to automatically give your LT help. Everyone else struggled to beat even the avg players one on one.

I don't think we will take a player for a DE position unless there is someone they really like late in the draft and that would be mainly for depth. We will be taking linebackers though. Roth did a great job in most facets of the game last year but he couldn't generate a consistant pass rush opposite of Porter. In my mind that makes outside backer a priority along with center and CB.

I think Parcells will draft another DE. I just hope he doesnt go for 2 or 3 or he will remind me of Wanny always taking corners.

langford cahnged his number to 93 btw.

Merling did good. Neither started or played the whole game. If you didn't see many games last year than you missed how much of a stickler is Sparano is about how much his linemen play. He counts the plays and keeps track of each play and how many downs each player played on the sideline. Starks is a big DE/Interior lineman who is pretty good at colapsing a pocket in the middle. I believe he would have had Favre in the first game for a big sack but he was grabbed from behind just as he was running free for him. It wasn't called and Favre threw the hail mary for the TD. Merling did have a pic six against Favre that helped us clinch the East. Langford played about 40% of the downs can came in on passing plays. PFW wrot:

If looking for an early candidate to burst onto the national scene in 2009, keep a close eye on Dolphins DE Kendall Langford. The small-school (Hampton) product played surprisingly well in his rookie season despite the common belief that he was going to take some years to develop at the NFL level. Given the improvement most players — especially defensive linemen — make from their first to second seasons, Langford has serious potential.

I don't think that tells you much about his production last year though. His stats are ok 31 tackels 25 solo, and 2 sacks.

Merling contribued 25 tackels 20 solo and 2 passes defensed. They were the 10th and 15th rated rookies tackle wise in the NFL.

Those two boys are the real deal to answer your question. A lot of that talk is about finding a pass rush LB.
