When Stephen Ross said he wants to bring back the “days of Dan Marino,” he wasn’t just talking about Marino’s exciting brand of offense. Marino also used to fill seats at Joe Robbie Stadium, and Ross is desperate to bring Dolphins fans inside his stadium this season.

The Dolphins have a “sellout” streak of 101 games dating back to 1998 – we use quotation marks because many of the sellouts involve ticket purchases by the local CBS station – but even fuzzy math can’t save the Dolphins this season.

Thursday’s preseason game against Dallas is blacked out. Team officials are privately concerned of several more blackouts coming this season, when the Dolphins host Houston, Washington, Denver, Buffalo and Oakland.
The Dolphins, once a model franchise of professionalism, dignity and stability, now have to resort to gimmicks to try to sell tickets.

Ross and CEO Mike Dee have tried celebrity owners, an orange carpet, a nightclub and a new fight song. Now they’re holding “Gator Day” on Oct. 23, trying to harness the Power of Tebow to sell tickets to University of Florida fans.

“It’d be great to just open the doors and let 70,000 people come in,” Dee said yesterday. “But now we need to be creative and aggressive. We’ve got to push.”

It's the 4th "practice" game where the starters will see next to no time. Who in their right mind would pay real money to watch that? That should be a game where all tickets are free to students of all levels.

We're going to keep the starters in so they can run the risk of getting injured.

sign me up for watching our first string play the cowboys 3rd string...GREAT

Put a exciting, winning product on the field.
How about trying that.

how's about, lowering prices, adding more value for the dollar?

I have gone to quite a few lightning games specifically because they dropped the price of tickets...

the problem is that people are tired of the crap we have been getting since Dan left...1 playoff win in 12 years does not strike me as a position of power...ESPECIALLY when everyone and their brother has direct tv now...

and now we are trying to bring in freaking gator fans to see a 3rd string QB? seriously...this front office doesn't get it. Seems like its time for dee to go too...

Hey heres a crazy idea...instead of celebrity orange carpets and gimmicks...how about getting a franchise quarterback that not only is the key to winning....but it also tends to draw fans?

Could that be the common denominator of the Marino era?

Miami has a terrible fan base in their home area. Up here in Orlando the bars will be full of Dolphin fans. There are thousands of fans accross the southeast but its a 5 hour drive to get down there. I prefer watching in the comfort of my home to ten hours of driving. If I came home the same night forget about it. I have to work in the morning. What about the gas and $35 in tolls if I want to take the turnpike. If I stay over night add s hotel. Then what if we lose and its 98 degrees outside and our coaching staff is happy with crumblelo. What you guys need is chips and salad night bring in Ricky Martin for the halftime show and do it every home game. Lol

I guess android likes salad over salsa and forget about correcting it with this phone.

While the Dolphins will always be a team I continually wish the best for, it's hard to feel bad for their recent inability to fill the seats given how poorly the franchise has been run. The response they have seen from the fans is nothing but an indication of public response to their decisions.

Just win baby! This will cure everything. When you put an incompetent staff and inferior product on center stage, what do you expect to happen? Maybe this year will be different, but I am not holding my breath.
