Breaking down the Miami Dolphins’ Ryan Tannehill tape against the Cincinnati Bengals
BY ARMANDO SALGUERO
October 09, 2018 02:22 PM
Listening to Adam Gase talk the past couple of days about the Miami Dolphins loss at Cincinnati, it’s obvious the coach believes quarterback Ryan Tannehill was victimized by poor pass blocking.

And it’s obvious the coach believes the game got away from the Dolphins after Laremy Tunsil suffered an apparent concussion in the fourth quarter and was taken out of the game. (Tunsil is in the concussion protocol now).

The problem with this narrative is that there were three other quarters in which there was no avalanche. And during that time Tannehill did questionable things that had nothing to do with bad pass protection, or tough circumstance.

Those plays could have extended drives, could have helped the Dolphins either build a bigger lead early in the game, or not allow their lead to vanish late in the game.

Just more excuses why Miami doesn't have consistent good QB play. I have been a Tannehill supporter but last week broke me. It's been years now, as in 7. Time to move on if he can't turn it around this season.

Miami must draft a QB in either 2019 or 2020 depending on the talent pool at that position. What has saddened me the most is Miami has made no move to get a good QB the last 3 drafts and there have been plenty available. Their lack of conviction about the QB position worries me the most.

Pretty darn obvious at this point.

Eh. Everyone was feeling just fine before that 4th quarter.. if drake would have caught that 3rd down pass he may have scored.

our team is obsessed with 'good'. rarely do you ever hear the term 'great' used about the majority of their roster. #20 is great. #91 was great. #25 can be great. #19 wants to be great. #10 is great sometimes. #21 is HOF great. who else we got with great-ness? no one. nobody. nothing else. there's some pretty goods, a ton of ok's, and a bunch of meh.

also... there's 0 great in the FO. and that's the crux of the issue. they're just 'meh'.

I think at this point we have to go in a different direction as I believe the team must be wondering if we can not win with him at QB. If the players don't have the confidence on him then it doesn't matter what he does, you're not gonna win any big games like that.

I thought it was a good article, breaking down the plays/ choices Tannehill made during the game. If this is what Gase and the FO thinks is good enough to win then we will keep having the same issues years after year no matter whose name is on the jersey. qb or ol.

I don’t believe it until Omar says it

Winning will always cause people to overlook problems. Doesn't make it right nor does it make the problem get fixed.

Those 3 quarters we're not impressive in the least. 2 drives in the first quarter that netted 40 total yards and 2 punts.

The second quarter produced 1 great TD drive, and another short possession that ended in a punt.

The third quarter got us a FG when we started the drive at midfield and a 3 and out punt.

The o line was playing just fine, and that's all we got. This is simply not good enough. Tannehill is only good when everything else around him is good. But that's true for a lot of backups. That's what Tanny is, a backup. This is coming from someone who held out hope for nearly a decade.

What exactly did he do wrong the first 3 quarters with reads or decisions?

Gifs please.

Read the article. Armando is cherry picking open players that may be 3rd on the progression

Yep, I was going to make this point exactly.

People are quick to say "X player was open!!!!" without knowing which receiver was the primary read and how many reads it takes to get to a certain player. If his eyes are looking to the right side of the field, he's obviously not going to quickly spot someone on the left side of the field.

Though I have definitely been questioning Gase's play design and whether his route trees and such are even good. Bruce Arians, for example, was known for having great route trees in his playbook. I've never seen it discussed when concerned with Gase, but I'm starting to worry that receivers not getting open is more scheme driven than player driven.
