JAKE GROVE GETS PAID

Posted by Mike Florio on March 3, 2009, 12:05 p.m.
Though the Dolphins have been quiet for much of free agency (after re-signing three of their own), they’ve made a big splash on the offensive line.
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Raiders center Jake Grove has agreed to a five-year, $29 million contract. The deal includes $14.5 million guaranteed.
Grove was a second-round pick of the Raiders in 2004. Has 46 career starts in five NFL seasons.

Too much. I hope it works out, but that seems like a lot of money for an injury plagued center. We could have spent just a little more and got Brown.

i think we should have shelled out the extra money for brown

I wonder how back loaded his base salary in the contract is? Maybe we still draft a center and cut him in the 3rd year.......ya never know

without knowing the details I have to believe that the contract is not going to be played out... they never do. we are probably looking at a 4 year deal around 20 mil when it is all said and done.

Well, considering our Head Coach is an old offensive line coach and he answers to Bill Parcells, I'm going to go ahead and trust this signing! IF he turns out to be a quality upgraded starter at center, our line is set to be a force for years to come. Just keep adding depth.

When I look at this deal, the word Loaded definitely seems to be in the equation. And I'm not talking numbers here.

Tell ya with moves like this I won't have a problem if they go back into hibernation.

I hope I'm wrong, these guys are as good as you get but C'mon. 6 million for a guy who's been injured almost 50% of his pro career.......

According to a source, Brown received a five-year, $37.5 million contract that includes $20 million in guarantees.
We should have just paid that much to Brown. It's a small difference for a huge difference in talent and age.

It's not 6 mil a year.....the only thing we know for sure is the 14.5 spread out over 5 years 2.9 mil his base could be anything over the minimum escalating each year....

That's where we would have to see where the other 14.5 comes in...heck his 5th year base salary could be 5 or 6 mil....

i agree. we should have just payed for brown. questionable move. hope it pays off!

Thanks for the reminder.:thanks: I do feel a little better now.

You know if he stayed healthy I wouldn't have a problem. But year after year after year he's injured.

Do they not see that...........

considering his health history I would hope the guarantees are mostly roster bonuses

Can't say I don't disagree, but it is a lot more money guaranting 4 mil for 5 years on your payroll and still paying him another 18 mil his cap charge is probably 6mil this year and close to 8 next year.

He wanted 8 mil a year to begin with....he probably came down the first year with that guarantee. Plus I wonder what incentives they threw in....

That is ridiculous for soemone who has only played 1 full season.

Brown, who signed for 5 yr 37.5, is younger, bigger, healthier and better is certainly worth 1.5 more a season.
