DeVante Parker jammed a finger on his right hand midway through practice Sunday morning. The injury is minor enough that he remained on the field and finished the session, but significant enough that when he signed an autograph for a military veteran afterward, he did it with his left hand.
So that’s some perspective to what happened this day.
Here’s more perspective: One Dolphins coach privately said afterward he thought Parker had a good practice.
Me? I missed that good practice.

Jammed fingers hurt like a sunuva but the team clearly thought he could tough through it and finish practice. No excuse to give very little effort and try to catch one handed passes and avoid using the hand. That and the fact he declined to talk to the press afterward just scream soft. Can’t wait to get a decent boundary receiver, his contract may be a “good deal” compared to what others are getting paid at his position but he’s handcuffing the offense at this point.

Wait I thought this was all an over reaction?

Maybe, but I think we are, and have been, seeing what Parker is made of.

Even if he ends up producing a decent year signing him to an extension is going to be a conundrum. Elite tools and physical traits + an unimpressive demeanor + on/off production and injuries = A complicated contract situation.

I doubt we resign him. Despite his athletic ability, he's just an average receiver. You can find that in the draft for a whole lot less money.

Question: what would we have to see from Parker this year to consider resigning him?

To me it would be more about the money he would accept, than how he performed. Even if he had a good year, I would consider it an outlier in a contract year. I think we know what he is by now.

I suppose if we could keep him for low guaranteed $, plus incentives, but TBH, I would rather move on.

I don't dislike him. He seems like a good guy. Doesn't create problems. Doesn't run his mouth.

I just think for what he is, I would rather take a shot with someone else. Its like a lottery. The more tickets you buy, the better your chances of hitting.

It's a make or break year for Parker and Phillips. Personally, I've downgraded my expectations for both. I see them as contributors, but not starters and certainly not stars. Let's hope one, or both, prove me wrong.

What I like about Parker is he stays under the radar. He can and has made sneaky big plays and we can keep him at a discount. If he was the stud he should be at this point we'd be dealing with contact "Landry" type talk. I do hope this preseason competition pushes him to where we expect him or down the ladder and let our new blood take over.

He has little to no trade value.

We didn't spend the 14th pick for sneaky, once in a blue, under the radar plays. We drafted him to be our number one. Not for him to struggle when he gets a hang nail.

I'm one of the biggest glass half full type of people here, and even I'm tired of worrying about Parker. I'm to the point that I couldn't care less if he's even in the game. If he proves me wrong then so be it....if not, I'm not getting heartburn over him anymore.

If he really had turned the corner you would think there would be 5-6 flashes at a minimum during camp. Has there even been 1?

You like that he has been disappointing enough to fly under the radar so we don't need to give him a huge contract? I dunno....Wouldn't you rather he actually lives up to his potential, takes the offense to a new level and wins us ballgames?

I was obsessed with the thought of drafting this guy a few years ago. Even if he somehow turns it on this year, I hope we don’t resign him.
