DeVante Parker continues to show flashes [GIF]

love the fact that he runs angry... great stiff arm

I wouldn't be so sure about the playbook concerns.

What I've seen over the last few weeks is that he's playing faster - you play faster when you are comfortable in knowing what you're doing. This is where the challenge for the coaches comes into play - do you keep a player on the boil and not put him out there until he has shown in practice that he knows what he's doing across the board? or do you throw him to the wolves and see what that gets in return.

In relation to those players who flash in practice/preseason, but perhaps show concern in other areas - I'm always a fan of throwing them in at the deep end because it can help steer discussions with, you have to work on this, that and the other. And sometimes, players are a better game player than practice player.

But it seems to be a trend with this team - even the likes of Cam Wake who sat for a while, when a of folks thought he should have been out there earlier.

Sometimes you just have to let Talent go and do it's thing - or try and let it go do it's thing.

Concur.

2 thoughts... 1) I recall it was the same w/ Wanny & Yeremiah Bell. 2) Part of it IMO was because Parker has skills, talent, & potential that he isn't being used. Joe, Bill, & Dan were afraid to go w/ the unknown.

One of the lone bright spots on this team. I'd hate to lose Matthews; would rather lost Stills and Cameron. Not sure what their contracts looked like, so maybe that is completely unrealistic.

Stills will be making $600k and $700k respectively over the next 2 years. He ain't going anywhere.

Cameron would be a $9.5M cap hit next year or we could cut him and deal with the $2M dead space. If he isn't cut, I will jump out of my office window.

Yes....but so is Amari Cooper....what is the point?

Not knocking the guy, but I need to see more before I declare him a success. He definitely has the tools.

I'm as big of a Davante Parker fan as anybody and I thought he has all the makings as a number 1 WR, but Cooper was just in another league in terms of being a WR prospect. Parker was much closer to Kevin White (the 2nd WR taken) than White was to Cooper IMO.

Also not everybody is going to develop at the some rate. Some peak too early, some are late bloomers. Remember there was a time when the Cowboys were made fun of for taking DaMarcus Ware over Shawn Merriman.

Glad to see people all jacked up because Parker beat SD's backup safety playing CB....Ill toot when I see him beat a Very good CB....Both those plays Verett the best CB they have is on Landry.

Because we're all wondering what his HOF statue will look like. Get real.

The biggest issue with Parker is that he isn't a good route runner, which is interesting because some people touted him as an excellent route runner in college.

He doesn't press the DB, stack him that well or get him to open his hips. He doesn't even sink his hips on his cuts in routes that well.

With Parker, he won't ever get massive separation it seems. Tannenhill will just have to throw it to him, even when he is covered.

i think that's fair but you can see even vs that competition that this kids got some serious talent...

I was watching NFL Network the other day and they had a "Football Life" show about Bruce Arians. In there, Peyton Manning told a story about how Arians asked Manning one time "why didn't you throw it?" and Manning said "He wasn't open, he was only this far ahead of the other guy" and Manning held his hands about a foot apart. And Arians said "In the NFL, that's 'open'".

Just sayin'

@Robert @hoos,

What is it that really creates separation for receivers? Excellent route running OR exceptional speed/acceleration? I understand the default answer of all of those things. But in an either/or type response which is more important and how does it apply/work?

Thanks,

@Robert @hoos,

Speed helps but its ultimately all about route running. A guy who runs a 4.7 but can sink his hips and can manipulate the DB and get him to open his hips quickly is 10000x better than someone who runs a 4.3 and can't work a DB or sink his hips. Watch this clip below. Jerry Rice must be 40 years old. Devante Parker doesn't run his routes anywhere close to this on a consistent basis. Thats why elite DBs will have zero trouble shutting him down. Parker does it sometimes and does it very well, but its so inconsistent with him.

Rice presses the DB, gets him to start opening his hips. Rice sinks his hips deep on the cut to the slant and accelerates to get the DB to commit then sinks his hips again when the DB has hips on a swivel. He then explodes out to the sideline, creating separation.

Wide Receiver Technique Release Drills

However, if my eyes aren’t betraying me – and they might be – it was something a lot better. The players I believe I recognize in this video are some of the better NFL receivers in the past 25 years. My apologies if I’m wrong, but I think the footage alternates between Broncos practice during the Rod Smith-Ed McCaffrey era and the Patriots era with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Coach Paschall could only supply a non-committal response when I asked for verification of their identity.
