The world is yours
Ok so I have a lot to say about the game yesterday, the team and the coaching staff, but I'll keep it relatively brief by sticking to the topic of Devante Parker.
Unless there is something that we don't know about his foot, or unless his knowledge of the playbook is still far behind (which I seriously doubt is the case) there is absolutely no reason why Parker should not be playing in 3 receiver sets over Stills and Jennings. I'll bullet point why.
- Greg Jennings was brought in to be a stable, veteran, sure handed, reliable presence. He isn't big, he isn't explosive, and he isn't scaring any defense with his playmaking ability. If we can't rely on him to get open in the holes of defenses and catch the football then he flat out shouldn't play. That drop he had on 3rd down in the first quarter was a brutal drive killer, and he clearly isn't on the same page as Tannehill. Jennings can be relegated to 4th or 5th receiver duties.
- It's only been two games, but Lazor is apparently dead set on not utilizing the skill set of Kenny Stills. Draw up a deep ball for him? Reverse? Bubble screen? Anything remotely creative? Nah. If he isn't used properly then he's a 4th or 5th receiver along with Jennings.
- We need a spark offensively. Desperately. Regardless of his route running prowess or current chemistry with Tannehill, Parker is a big kid with great hands, explosiveness, and he's a great red zone threat. He needs a shot.
I'm not saying that Devante Parker is the panacea for what ails us offensively. We have tremendous issues with blocking, the running game and the play calling, but we need to try SOMETHING. Honestly, what's the worst that could happen by giving him a real chance to be on the other side of Matthews in 3 wides? The risk/reward ratio in this situation totally favors the reward, and I truly can't imagine he'd be worse than what we're getting from Jennings and Stills.
PS Holy **** Walt Aikens has to sit.
