Funny I haven't seen a discussion on Devone yet. Word out of the morning practice was that this guy was catching everything they threw at him. I am always somewhat cautious with guys who look like jitterbugs coming out of college with the level of competition in the NFL. But I am really excited about seeing this guy during camp in in preseason games. He'll likely make the team, and I look for him to take on that Wes Welker type role. I can see him being able to catch allot of stuff underneath and being able to make things happen. Any words from those who attended practice?

Just another great camp subplot. Allot of competition here.. lots of jobs up for grabs. Should be real fun around here this preseason.

Davone Bess will make every single Dolphin fan forget about Wes Welker. I guarantee it. This team was very, very, very lucky to get a player the caliber of Davone Bess.

devone bess was the best reciever on the field during both practices. the guy had zero drops which is an amazing thing especially given the fact that all of the quarterbacks were terrible.

hagan and wilford looked good as well. ginn was the invisible man.

I love when I read reports that say Devone Bess has "vacuum hands" or "fly paper hands"

Also "his next drop will be his first".

He has my attention. I'm intrigued.

I'm not surprised Ginn was 'invisible' although when you look at the clips from miamidolphins.com he's one of the more prominent receivers shown.

Devone is a guy I've heard allot about. He isn't very tall so I am always curious to see how guys like this work out. So a Welker role would be ideal. A Steve Smith role would be astounding. Ultimately we're talking about play making ability and YAC production. We really haven't had anyone to get us excited from that position in some time. even with CC on the roster.

It's real encouraging to hear a draft pick excel on the opening of camp. I hear he's in great shape as well. It will be interesting to see the roles defined as the preseason progresses.

Bess is an interesting sub plot. Just having a dependable sure handed receiver is an upgrade for Miami. We need someone reliable on 3rd downs. This is a great opportunity for him.

Bess is like the anti-thesis of Ginn

slow but born to play the position

just a minor correction, but bess is udfa

he doesn't have the speed to play on the NFL level. He might make this team just because we are so bad and don't have anyone else.

Remember how cautious we have to be with the speed factor, its been said even before the Jerry Rice days (hes not fast enough)...end of the day, your QB will be looking for the reliable hands, your instinctive wrs, to get 5-8 ypc...not only the burners for 15 yds plus per carry

I am intrigued with Devone Bess. It is very nice to hear that he had a solid first day, and hopefully he can keep it up. Can't wait to see him in an actual game situation once the preseason games finally start.

With the lack of depth at WR, right now he probably has a very good shot of making the final 53 man roster.
