I guess this for anyone with a real good memory or the game recorded like I have,
On the First drive of the game we have the Jags in a 3rd and 13 and Randy Starks goes over the RG and ends up on his hands and knees and crawls himself into Garrard who in turn goes down.
Is this not the Brady penalty?
Did the Refs just not see it?
Or do I not understand the rule?

saw it, and your right it should of been a penalty.....but i don't think the Refs saw it.

i thought he got up and he was falling back down onto garrard, but i could be wrong

He never got to him until after the ball was gone, Gerrard had already stepped up. Could have been a penalty it was that close.

I remember seeing it but didn't think anything of it except "OH SHI Starks is an animal!". Now that you mention it, it seems like it should've been a penalty.

No it is not. "The Brady Rule" prohibits a player on the ground who has not been blocked from LUNGING or DIVING at the quarterback's lower legs. Starks crawled all the way to the quarterback and did not lunge or dive at Garrard's lower legs. Therefore by definition of the rule, no penalty should have been called.

I think this is going to be up for interpretation by the referee much like the roughing the quarterback rules are.

I believe it depends on whether the player is blocked into the QB...I think that since he was blocked in that direction and slid towards the QB, that it won't be called in that situation...

The rule leaves a lot of room for interpretation though...

As long as you are not lunging or diving at his knees or ankles there is no penalty.
