Did anyone else learn a lot about Mike Sherman last night?

I guess I didn't know a lot about his demeanor or temperament before last night's Hard Knocks, but man, that guy really tells it like it is. I am specifically referring to the ass whooping he put on the tight ends in one segment. When he told Michael Egnew that if he were the coach he'd cut him right now and there was this silence, even I felt awkward. He's seriously intense, and that is something I had no idea about. His reactions during the first game up in the coaches booth were also interesting.
 
I love it. This is the highest level of football in the entire world. These coaches don't get paid to be nice. They are paid to create a winning goddamn football team. It's about time our organization wasn't filled with pushovers.
 
Sherman is bringing the intensity this offense has needed for a long time.
 
He's holding players accountable. I'm not sure we've had that since Saban.
 
Yeah, it looks like Sherman, Turner and some others are no-nonsense, in your face confrontational coaches. Personal accountability after The Meatball may take a little getting used to, but it's definitely a good thing.

Absolutely, players need to be held accountable. Why would i say anything to the contrary? Your also correct in that Saban got that part right...Ultimately balance is the key
 
I maintain that had Saban stuck to his initial plan rather than let other people (Mueller and an incompetent medical staff) talk him out of it. Saban wanted to build through the draft, and the only QB he wanted in FA was Brees but the medical staff talked him out of that and to trade for Culpepper. Mueller also talked him into giving fairly good money to LJ Shelton. I honestly also feel that had Saban's family liked Miami, he would have ended up doing better (one of the main reasons he took the Bama job was because his wife hated living in Miami)

I'm far from a Nick Saban apologist, but the man is a good football coach. He is a horrible NFL general manager, but if he had signed Drew Brees instead of Daunte Culpepper, I bet that he would still be the coach here.

Agreed. He would've been a huge NFL star had he signed Brees. We would've also been one of the most exciting teams in the league. God damn shame.
 
I loved the way Sherman and our tightend coach played good cop bad cop.

Sherman berates the guys then Campbell builds them back up.
It seemed to work as the TE's especially Clay played great for the most part. Egnew still looks a little lost to me.

you pretty much said the thing right there; break him down and build him back up. Egnew was a glorified WR in college and to be a TE, he's gotta change habits. You need the hard ass and the supportive guy in that case. The TEs also love Campbell (Egnew said in an interview on the official website that Campbell is the best coach he has ever had)
