Seems to me Gase was clued in that he would be in demand still as HC if fired. After the Vikings debacle, he knew Tannehill was done in Miami. Which would mean a 4th year with either a rookie or a FA potentially worse than Tannehill. His likelihood of surviving Year 4 in such a circumstance was not good. He surveyed the landscape and saw a multiple teams with HC vacancies and young promising QBs like the Browns, Jets and Cardinals.

So rather than try to win out and give the Dolphins a shot at the playoffs for a stay of execution, he basically just shuts it down, tunes out Ross and does whatever he can to force the issue.

The striking play to me was the Wildcat play in the middle of the 4th quarter in Buffalo down 20 points. They fumbled on that play. That play makes NO SENSE in that circumstance unless the coach was actively trying to get himself fired.

I think there is a lot of merit to this:

I dont buy it... And that wildcat play had already worked a couple of times in that very game... If he was looking to fail, he'd have called a long throw which would have inevitably ended up in a sack...

Can't wait to see how the Dolphins play whatever team he lands on. It will be a good day.

Maybe, or maybe its just a continuation of his incompetence.

Honestly, how would you know the difference?

He was calling bubble screens on 3rd and 1, midway through the fourth, with a lead, when he should have been running the clock.

Was he trying to get fired then?

Maybe there are interested teams.

More likely is he is the one putting that stuff out there. Who, besides him, would be in a position to know how many teams called?

Wasn’t it like 3rd and 10? Down 20+ with 8 minutes left in 4th quarter? How on earth does that make sense?

I said it as a joke a few times after some hilariously bad playcalling. Running it twice on 3rd and 10 in a winnable game in the 4th quarter ... a flea flicker in a similar situation ... some straight up weird calls as the season was moving along and becoming more dim. Then you think about him being disinterested on the sideline and giving the worst possible answers at pressers (blaming players, injuries) after embarrassing losses and all of a sudden it might not be so crazy.

Super **** that guy if true.

OMG! How ridiculous. So let's say for the sake of argument that you are correct: That means that who ever hires Gase next gets a consumate professional who quits on his team for his own benefit!

Hindsight is 20/20 so lets see if we can tell who Gase really was. Below you will see the gaffs that come off the top of my head. This guy is who we think he is - and any team hiring him too will regret.

1. All in with Tannehill -

2. No serious QB alternative with Tannehill coming off of experimental knee surgery.

3. Jay Cutler.

4. Jay Ajayi.

5. Jarvis Landry.

6. Minimal investment in offensive line.

7. Jordan Phillips.

8. Defensive coordinator Burke.

9. Short yardage offense.

10. TJ McDonald

11. Reshad Jones drama

This goes back prior to the Vikings game. Remember Tunsil saying they were unprepared and it showed. James went as far as to say the Vikings tendencies on defense were not discussed that week. Something was off.

Plus the way he teed up the final game as one he was trying to win by playing all starters including Parker, only to get smashed. He was begging to get fired. Had he wanted to maximize his chances of keeping job, he would have downplayed final game and say something about “developing players” instead of going out there saying they are in it to win it and then get smashed. Makes it even worse.

I don't like to believe this is the case, but I saw some pretty bizarre stuff in the last month and the team seemed to completely implode.

I don't know.

The weirdest thing I saw at the end was the decision to play Devante Parker. Dude, why would you play Parker in that situation? You sit his ass on the bench so the team isn't on the hook for 9 million dollars... come on.
