Did HBO push the Dolphins into signing Ochocinco?

Possible though not probable. Trading Marshell opened the door for 85.

HBO probably have some influence in Boxing because they are major promoters but they don't have any influence in the NFL.

This is probably just Ireland and Philbin doing their 'due diligence'. The drops in camp probably have something to do with it, also Chad seems to have had a very good workout based on what I've read.

He's older now, maybe he has matured in a good way. I think he will at the very least double his numbers from last year. It is a completely positive situation for the Fins. Look at what the pats paid for him.

The new DC had experience with Chad, so they should know what they may have to deal with.

Philbin will really have a trial by fire his rookie year though. I can't wait for Hard Knocks and that first preseason game. :dolphins:

This was a 'football decision' as they say. Just like it was a 'football decision' when the Partriots got him only a year. But since it was us, every one and their mom will say otherwise.

Highly doubtful. I think a better reason would be that we need all the WR help we can get.

Yes...but the gravy is that he will bring attention to a team with an eroding season ticket fan base.

Certainly you are not naive to the realities of business? Follow the money angle.....always follow the money trail and everything will become clear to you!!!!!!!!!!

It makes sense because many owners do in fact tell the GMs to go after a FA or draft pick. Remember when Ireland wanted to trade for orton, and Ross said no? It happens

And who said Ireland reported to Ross that Ochocino's workout was bad?

No, because that never happened

Reason we signed 85 is simply because our FO believe he still has some gas left and were also thin & unproven at wr. So its not even a gamble since contract not even guaranteed, so theres production to gain and nothing to lose really.

Naanee was our WR aquistion in Offseason. i saw every panthers game last year, thats not an aquistion as much as his agent said he;s a number one. thats why we are kicking tires of chad. it sucks we may lose out on a young guy cause of him but how many young guys have we had hanging around for awhile trying to prove themselves

I'm sure next we'll have Kenny Powers playing QB, Larry David playing Stephen Ross, and Paulie Walnuts as GM.

Anyone who thinks that a television channel made us sign a WR is crazy

I agree, just because of a TV show, that's a stretch. However, I wouldn't doubt it's more of a business (put butts in the seats) signing than a football signing. We've seen what ownership here has tried in the past. I hope I'm wrong and I hope he works out!
