Since when did losing a few marginal players become a fire-sale? Since when does cutting an overpaid tight end make a team "cheap?"
Folks, snap out of it. Remember thinking this year how somebody on the defensive line had to be cut because Roth is ready? Well that was Kevin Carter - a good leader, and a pretty good football player, but let's not go overboard. If Roth underperforms he can still be what Carter was to us last year.
Wes Welker? He is everybody's favorite because of his gutsy play, but the fact is, the Wes Welker types are the guys that championship teams need - not teams that are years away from competing for championships. If anyone is a baseball fan, more specifically a Marlins fan, think Craig Counsell. Sure we all love Welker, but he is easily replaceable on a bad/average team. He will be an integral part of the Patriots - that's why they overspent for him.
Randy McMichael? Don't think of what was....think of what has been - as in the past year or so. Has anyone seen such a drastic decline ever in an athlete. I'm not even talking his mental lapses - this guy runs like a sloth all of a sudden. He never has been a great blocker, and his sudden lethargy contributed to him being a non-factor in the passing game. We are MUCH better off having a total blocking tight end than having a tight end that can't do anything very well. I would have loved to screw some team out of a 3rd, but overall I'm just happy that we're moving on.
Joey Harrington, Kevin Vickerson, Jeno James, Seth McKinney? Need I comment?
This supposed "fire-sale" looks a whole lot more like some overdue house cleaning. We've lost two starters, one of which we have a young backup ready to emerge, and the other was just not worthy of a roster spot any longer.
I have a feeling we'll be alright without these guys.
