I woke up this morning and checked these board, espn, and the heralds forums and every is saying the secondary sucks. Now I am not sayng they played well but I didn't think they sucked by any stretch. Zach thomas gave up the play to heath miller that killed us. I don't know, watching pitts linebackers and then watching zach and jason taylor, it seemed like we are not quite upto snuff.

IMO this is why we lost:

1. Culpepper just wasn't good, he just didn't have it for whatever reason. We should have scored more points without a doubt.

2. I thought the offensive play calling sucked. I just didn't like it in anyway. I thought we had plenty of time at the end of the game and felt we should have been throwing shorter passes specifically to brown.

3. The defense wasn't bad but also wasn't good. I love zach thomas but he was exposed and honestly Jason taylor did nothing. Yea he got a sack but it was a coverage sack.

After saying all this I am very excited about this season. I saw a team prepared to play and in general was well disciplined(not many penalties). I know we will score alot of points this year. Like last year I expect us to put it together, but unlike last year i believe it will happen alot earlier this year and at the end of the year we will be a real tough team.

Biggest offseason needs imo: LB(more than 1), a running back, a TE and offensive lineman.

I dont want to be the one that said told you so, but I told you so. This was going to ba tough game. This one hurts, we blew it!

I agree with most of this but:

1. The fact we had zero running game did in Daunte. No down the field plays in the first half and in the second half we completely abandoned the running game and went down the field, which doesn't work.

2. Agreed. Should have gone down the field more in the first and ran more in the second.

3. Crowder should have been covering Miller. I don't know who called the play or if it was a blown assignment but Zach isn't fast enough to cover a TE like Miller. I think that was just a bad play call rather than a blown coverage on Zach.

Saban 2005 has got some good points not all I agree with however, This is why I think we lost the game:

No running game: If we are going to win in the NFL we have got to find a way to get RB going and going early.

Wide Receivers: Our Wide Receivers looked like crap(except Wes)The Steelers were blitzing sometimes two LB's at a time, our receivers need to get open.

Secondary: Although they didn't play bad, we needed to shut down ward, the same way they shut down Chambers, then again they did have a running game.

instead of complaining about our play calling, why don't you realize, that is why they won the SB last year. They have a great coaching staff, and that play shows how great coaching makes a difference. due to thier allignment, they saw something in how we were covering them and they exploited it. I am posative they came up with that play at 1/2 time based on how we were reacting to 1st half plays they were running.

On that play we got out coached, not a dis at our coaching, more of a compliment to theirs.

Some times you just get beat, and that's what happened. I don't look to have this feeling too many more times this season, we are in for some great football.

By the way our playcalling, offensively was outstanding based on the D we were playing. They have made the colts and the patriots and even the rams look bad offensively. What I'm saying is, I don't think we looked as bad offensively as they Steelers looked good defensively.

One huge positive I haven't seen since Dan: a qb that quickly reads the blitz and gets the ball to hot receiver where the blitz came from. I swear he got every one. Nice to see.

Sorry but I dont agree with you, if you look at the numbers this game wasnt even close. The fins have some issues to correct and they better do them in a hurry. They say football is won and lost on the trenches, and I believe that 100%. Last night the steelers controled both sides of the line. In the second half Parker was running over and aorund our line. Our DT's were being pushed back on every snap. The OL sucked, they couldn't pass protect or block anybody. I didn't see a single hole being opened for Brown. Besides that huge failure by our lines, the secondary played very poorly and DC did not look comfortable in the pocket, he was dancing alot back there, his throws were undecisive, making them very inaccurate. Well lets hope we can at least get our lines doing a better job, and lets see if DC was really worth it.

We cant run the ball if they dont call it. I think we had 15 or so running plays. Ronnie had no holes, but did make a few good moves. It seemed like the plays were blown up immediatly by pitt. Boselli was on the radio this morning and said it is very difficult to run block when you dont get a chance to get into the mentality. Pass blocking 4 times, then run blocking once results in a poor running game.

As far as Zach getting burned...where were the safeties?

and WHERE IS JASON ALLEN?

IMO the whole defensive problem is scheme related. Everyone looks slow like they dont know what to do.
