I saw that they got to recieve to start the game, but I can't imagine that Carolina would want to take the side of the field that would have them in the infield dirt in the redzone. That gave Miami a huge advantage. When Carolina was trying to run in it from the 3 (after that great catch by Smith) all of Miami's D line was able to push off the turf, while Carolina's Oline was stuck trying to get traction off that loose dirt. I think that was a huge factor in Carolina not being able to run it in- they couldn't get any push from the Oline and Miami was able to stuff it every time. So then I thought maybe Carolina won the toss, elected to kick, and Miami got to pick field position?

If you win the toss, you can defer your choice until the second half. Otherwise, if you choose to kick, the other team would receive at the start of both halves.

Under NCAA rules, the team winning the coin toss may defer the option until the second half, choose to kick, choose to receive, or choose to defend either goal. Under NFL rules, the winning captain can select which team receives or which goal line he wants to defend.

You can choose to kick/receive or which goal to defend. If you kick off, you automatically receive in the 2nd half. It's not possible to kick off to start both halves.

I missed the first 5 minutes of the games last week so I'm not sure what happened. I also can't remember who got it to start the third. doh!

I would guess carolina won the toss and elected to kick and we chose the good side. However, its possible that they just didn't know our field well and somehow miscalculated which side would be an advantage/ disadvantage.

:hmmm:....er...Since when?

either way both teams would be in the same position, becuase you switch sides after each quarter.

The irony is that all three Smith TD's were score on that end. Didn't seem to hurt their passing game.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Thank you, Simone.

:D :D :rofl3:

Its in the NFL rules. Basically, if you win the toss, you have to receive. Its not like college. When have you heard of any NFL team winning the toss but receiving the ball in the 2nd half?

In the NFL, you cant win the toss and elect to kick. If you do, you kick in the 2nd half as well. Think about it, have you ever heard of that happening in the NFL? Its not like college.
