Me and my friend had a discussion about this everyday and could not find information. I belived Ronnie Brown lined up as a Fullback but did'nt Carry the ball as a Fullback. My friend said he did Carry the ball couple of times as a fullback up the middle. I exactly don't remembering seeing that. Well I need to know whats the truth.

Yeah Ronnie got some carries from the upback when he and Ricky were in the backfield together.

But nothing good came of it.

Well what I saw mostly was split backs and passing usually and about how many times they did this year?? any idea??

If I'm not mistaken they gave him some quick inside handoffs with Ricky at HB and it worked ok, but after using it a couple times it wasn't much of a surprise anymore.

The "both backs on the field at the same time" thing was a failure, A rare thing for Saban so far.

exactly. they made thigns so obvoius and it was very odd as saban is konwn for being unpredictiable wiht his blitzes on the D side but on the O side it was patheticly obvious. 2 backs were 99.99% a pass and RB at FB was a 99.99% a quick hand off. it was stupid.

Brown got a handful of carries at fullback, but it was pretty much the same play. Miami would line up 5-wide, and would motion back into an I-Form, 3 wide package and hand off to the fullback. Sammy Morris and Ronnie Brown both got a handful of carries.

It's entirely too early to deem it a failure, especially considering how little they tried it. Either Saban and Co. never really cared for the option to begin with, or they arent going to unleash it yet. I think it could be either.

The key for the whole situation is for Ronnie Brown to play fullback or WR. He rarely played either. I dont know if Saban and Co. are interested in using him like that, or were just trying to keep it simple in his rookie season.

Ronnie and Ricky on the field at the same time hardly make things predictable though. It was this season, but it does not have to be that way.

That was Linehan... and one of the reasons Saban busted him down to the sidelines... and one of the reasons I was so sure Linehan would be gone after the season.

The problem was that for most of the season, they never used the two-back formation to run. Asinine. Other teams even said that as soon as they saw both Ronnie and Ricky in they knew it was a pass play. Even may have cost us a game.

So I don't know if I'd say it was a failure so much as it was barely used. Certainly not the way it should be. IF Ricky is back, you'll see that changed.

I don't mean to say it wont work only that in the past, it hasnt'. As you've pointed out, when they were both in the backfield, we were going to pass. Not to hard to figure out.

No, I gotcha. I was just agreeing. except blaming Linehan.

My thoughts exactly. And just because the key to it is Ronnie at FB doesn't mean he has to play the FB position the way it's traditionally been played.

So before you say "the #2 pick is a waste on a FB" or "Ronnie is paid too much to be a FB," remember that we're allowed to reinvent the wheel in a new way here. There's no league rule that says we have to use Ronnie Brown like he's Sam Gash.
