Because if he did I see us running a lot of shotgun if we pick up Brees to compensate for our below average pass protection. Just a thought.

the same below average pass protection that gave up a VERY low number of sacks and will only be improved from last year?

yuuuuuuuuup.

As bad as Frerotte was he was Outstanding at getting rid of the ball and avoiding sacks, his pocket presence has to be among the best in the league and he was a major major factor in the low number of sacks.

I dont know if you like, watched last season...But only 3 teams in the NFL gave up less sacks then the Dolphins last year.

Ya but it was subpar pass protection. Frerotte was just really good at getting the ball away.

No, pass protection was not subpar. For every situation in which Frerotte escaped from the pass rush, there was one where he held onto the ball and took an unnessicary sack.

BTW...Sage Rosenfels wasnt sacked, despite attempting 61 passes.

The offensive line did a very good job in pass protection last year. There were plenty of occasions where Frerotte was barely hassled, much less sacked.

As for getting the ball away, it's one of the biggest crutches in the book. The bottom line is, many times you can't just get rid of the ball. You have intentional grounding to consider, and sophisticated coverages to contend with. The occasions where Frerotte did throw it away weren't out of the norm. There are QB's on 31 other teams that do the same thing.

I also don't remember seeing us play a game where they brought the heat like most teams do. I can only assume they didn't blitz a lot because they would rather have Frerotte throw the ball and get picked off because he isn't very accurate or good.

No, I think Atila was right, he might have missed too many wide open receivers, but he did not throw that many away.

He helped, but I watched every game with my friends, and we were very impressed how little pass rush there was compared to the year before.

Houck did a fantastic job of coaching up a line that absolutely stunk in protection the year before. The O line cut the # of sacks in half and Gus almost always had time. Evertime we saw a blitz we had the blcoking called to pick it up. The year before if they blitzed from the right we sent protection to the left and vice verse. Wise got our QBs killed there was no scheme or coaching for the marginal talent we have. Remember Brees two years ago in diego had a good year being well protected behind a Houck line.

If your a QB and you come to the LOS and see a D-fense and KNOW the blocking and audible you call will work it does tremendous things for your confidence. Its all about great coaching and preperation and I expect to see the improvement continue

Then they made a very big mistake, because say what you will about Gus, he didn't make the big mistake (Fumble, throw an INT) at the worse possible moments like Fiedler or Feeley, and no pick6.
