did saban teach belichick how to run a defense?

Thats right. BB has SB rings from before he was with Saban in Cleveland.

Also this paragraph just kind of made me laugh.

"Did you know that Little Bill left Cleveland (where he didn't do terrible) to be the DC at NYJ with Parcells as the HC because he was promised the HC job when Big Bill retired in a couple years? Also that the job change happened right AFTER Saban took a HC job in college? Coincidence.......well, yes! "

Actually, BB left Clev. because he was fired and the team moved to Balt. I don't think BB gave up on the Browns cause Saban took a college job. Also, Parcells was the coach of the Jets after both he and BB had coached in NE.
That paragraph is wrong on so many levels. But,hey, revise history if it helps your theory!

i could be wrong but it seems to me that nick was the brains of the browns defense. when he left it slipped. bb and nick stay in touch while nick is in college. do you guys think that nick taught him how to build the pats defense? just a thought please be gentle.

You should go look at the post-superbowl on the field interview with BB (the first one of his) where he said on national TV that Saban has taught him more about defense than he taught Nick. (paraphrasing) Every offseason they would meet to discuss football and defense. The both live and breath football year round. I can't answer your Brown's question, but I'm sure that they were "like-minded" about that defense.

All I know is that when they played the Rams and when they played the Colts, BB has said in press conferences that he uses the same type of scheme against those teams that he used to shut down the 1990 Bills.

So his defense goes back before he was teamed up with Saban.

The simple answer to this is that Both guys use alot of deception when calling a defense. Thats why they both like LB's that can do everything good. Maybe not Great at any single thing, but good at everything.
Exactly what I was going to say. The scheme against the 90 Buffalo K-Gun was a 2-5-4 I think. It made Buffalo throw and their reciever's got killed by LB's, one hit on Andre Reed especially sticks with me. Against the Rams BB used 5 or 6 DB's at a time. The guy is a great defensive coach and was so long before Saban was around.

Quick thing, it is the LB versatility that makes Zach Thomas out of place in Saban's scheme. He was great for JJ and Wanny, but I think his best years will be a distant memory by the end of this season.
