Did Tannehill sign and it not get reported?

We burn a top 10 pick and say "your the future face of our franchise!"
The number 7 and 9 picks have signed, creating the room in which to sign him.
Last years number 8 selection was also a quarterback, creating the foundation of this years number 8 selection deal.
Our front office had 3 months to get this done.

............and the deal isnt done in time for training camp. And people are saying this isnt embarrassing? The CBA made signing draft picks idiot proof. People in this thread could get it done in time. We had the most basic of expectations, the most bare minimum of expectations: have the players we selected in the draft at training camp. Does that sound unreasonable? And yet we manage to screw it up because we want our supposed franchise quarterback to take a contract clause that suggests we will cut him.

This is stupid. This is potentially dangerous(with Tannehills confidence). And this is, above all else, embarrassing.

We're not the only team trying to do it though it's just that most teams have caved in to the demands of the agents and Ireland hasn't. As far as I know Kendall Wright still hasn't signed with the Titans because of the same thing.

Khalil is the only top 10 pick not to get the offset in his contract and only because he didn't want to hold out. T-Hill is the future and if you're screwing with him over a small amount of guaranteed money in case you cut him, is he really the future in their eyes?

Lombardi has been bashing the Dolphins all offseason because of two reasons imo. He wanted the Dolphins GM job and was pissed when Ireland wasn't fired. Also, his son works for the Patriots so of course he is going to have some anti-bias against the rest of the AFC East.

Which makes this even worse Nubs. Let another team do this to their top pick, do Ireland can praise him. You don't do this to a guy who is perceived to be the future.

miamis not gonna "tear down any walls" with this...other teams are still gonna operate the same way they have...give in to guys...2 or 3 teams if they do in fact get the offset language in tennessee and miami and jax are not gonna make the rest of the league do the same thing...

heck this isn't really even giving in...it's just trying to take advantage of a loophole in a new rookie contract system that is much much much more team and cap friendly to begin with...pick your battles...this shouldn't be one

Exactly the interpretation I got too.

I also see no malice from Lombardi. Just stating facts. Personally, I don't mind the team playing a little hardball. They shouldn't roll over. It's not like Tannehill has proven he will start. Tannehill likely isn't even negotiating. it's his agent. Sometimes I think fans take it more personally, than the parties involved do.

Hardly.

Teams and draft picks know that you treat quarterback contracts differently. Its common place in the NFL today. If we gave into Tannehills contract demands this year, whatever offensive lineman we take in the first next year we could still dig in about. There is already a precendent for that type of "giving in". I doubt future agents would attempt to argue for quarterback treatment with our future draft picks.

And its laughable to suggest we are going to have any sort of real "gain" or "praise" in the future. We are digging our heels into the ground over a few hundred thousand bucks. This isnt the former CBA where players are getting 5 year $55 million deals. Had we dug in then and saved money, the other owners would have worshipped us. This is a draft where the total contract for the first overall pick doesnt even cover half the guaranteed portion of the former top picks. This is a draft system where we have alloted slots determining how much money we an spend.
The other owners are happily watch us making an ass of ourselves over what they would consider a trivial amount of money.

And if this has nothing to do with Tannehill(despite him being directly involved and us asking him to do something none of the other first round quarterbacks did, not even Weeden who got partial guarantees in his 4th year despite being selected 14 slots after Tannehill) why even risk the possibility of doubt? Why antagonize him over something so petty? Going forward, Tannehill knows that their is a possibility that Ireland doesnt have confidence in him. Whether Ireland intended that to be the case or not, nothing said from this point forward will erase that potential doubt. Ask Tony Sparano about that.

Vikings were the one to cave. Only Stephen Gilmore, selected 10th, had the offset language in his contract. Everyone else, save for Blackmon, has gotten that basic guarantee.
