The Dolphins have signed former Arizona Cardinal Eric Green to a multi-year contract.

The long-awaited move could solidify Miami’s 2009 starting secondary.
Green, who turns 27 on Monday, is expected to step into the right cornerback position opposite Will Allen - held last season by Andre Goodman, who led the team with five interceptions and 19 passes defensed.

The Dolphins decided not to re-sign Goodman, who turns 31 in August, has a long injury history and wanted too much money. He signed five-year, $25 million deal with the Broncos … a lot of money for a player who was key to the Dolphins playoff run but struggled early in the season.

Whether Green is an upgrade remains to be seen.

well we had nothing really outside of allen, so yeah.. but its still not enough in my opinion

Let's see how Green plays before we determine wether or not he's an upgrade or not.

Depth-wise...Yes. Now if he performs well in our scheme, even better.

I don't think Green is the long-term answer, I believe we will draft another CB during Day One.

I think we got younger, I think Green can play CB in the NFL. I think the FO thinks he's good enough to sign. I'm more than happy at this point cause everyone on this team has to earn a spot, so if Green isn't the starter come week one, you'll have your answer.

Wow he's faster and younger:chuckle: but I do not think that he is an upgrade at all :boohoo:. The best we can hope is a push (i.e., equal) exchange :err:

the jury is still out on this one:
it starts with will he beat out Jason Allen? Jason has all the right stuff to be a shut down corner & may finally bring it to the table in 2009
must have been an excellent deal for the Dolphins to pull the trigger on Green
look to the draft for a real resolution to the problem ( utah's smith? )

I am not sure he is the answer. They still need to draft one in the 1st or 2nd round.

As long as he doesn't get burned on the deep ball once a game like we saw from Goodman, I'll be happy.

I think Green can become a real baller for us. He is just entering his physical prime, has a number of years experience (some as a starter). I was hoping he would choose us over another team if equal contracts were present. I know a lot of people say he couldn't make it longterm as a starter for ARI or that Cardinal fans are ripping this guy all the time so he MUST be bad right? Just remember Lions fans were laughing at us when we signed Goodie and he turned into a really solid player for our defense. My point being if Bowles can coach Andre Goodman up (who only really started to shine under this new regime's watch/teaching) and make him a solid part of the secondary, I think he can do the same for Green. Eric reminds me of a player who has all the tools physically but hasn't quite got it all together in the brains department. From what I understand his greatest weakness is a lack of discipline in coverage (e.g. taking unnecessary risks going for the ball), something that will be stressed tremendously by Sparano and Co. IF he comes home to Florida and decides to listen to the coaches, I think he can be come an above average starter (not a star, but definitely a quality contributor). Upgrade in my opinion.

I dont know if we upgraded or not, that remains to be seen. I think we are at least as good as were last year at CB. Nothing to do backflips over but I dont think we regressed.

Its clearly an upgrade, but im not sure how much of an upgrade.

Let's just look at it this way....we traded Andre Goodman for Gibril Wilson....is that an upgrade? clearly, we had a hole with Renaldo Hill, we exchanged it for Eric Green, but clearly Gibril Wilson is better than an Andre Goodman
