Did we really use a draft pick to get Sturgis so we could get rid of Carpenter?? Looking back I can't believe I supported Ireland as long as I did. His drafts were worse than anyone in the history of football. Carp has been great ever since he went to buff. He just hit a game winner from a little over a mile away. Unreal.

Buffalo has now beat both the bears and lions on the road. If the bills had a qb that would be a scary team. They still might be the team to beat in the east.

Carpenter needed getting cut to get his focus back. He was declining rapidly with us, was very expensive, and needed a change of scenery. Unfortunately it came at the expense of our kicking game for the foreseeable future.
 
Funny how many here were bashing the hell out of Carp ...

Seems like many of the same overall doing the same to Sturgis. (He's currently 8-9, with a long of 51 ... But his kick offs aren't leaving the end zone, so let's get the pitchforks out. :bobdole:)

Miami has never had the skill in the trenches and at the skill positions that they have. Loaded w. high round draft picks in key positions (vs. UDFA and FA and lower draft picks in key positions for Miami).

The only thing they're lacking is in QB. IF Orton figures out a way to just be average, Bills are making the playoffs.

The ****ing Lions lose to the Bills, but will kick our ass with healthy team and legit kicker.

I hate that team. Get the **** off of Turkey Day too.
 
To be fair, Carpenter cost us at least 5 games in the 2 years before he was cut...

That being said, Sturgis sucks, especially for his draft position

Yawn. This entire forum thought carpenter was worse than the devil then we cut him and suddenly "oh I hope we did the right thing"
 
Dan Carpenter as a Dolphin:

2010- missed 7 kicks in 4 weeks, lost 2 of those games by 3 points each.
2011- missed 3 kicks in 2 weeks, lost a game by 1 point.
2012- missed 4 kicks in 3 weeks, lost 2 games by 3 points each.

Thats why we cut him.

Carpenter never lacked for talent, but kicking is as much about confidence as it is about ability. Carpenters confidence was shot with us. We gave him years to turn it around and he couldnt. Were he a quarterback, i could see doing things to try and save his career, but a kicker? Not wasting the time. Carpenter was a good guy for us, so im pleased his career is going well(you know, relatively speaking, im not happy he landed with Buffalo) but his time was done here.

Which is not to i dont think we should replace Sturgis. Id have few qualms about that. But there are more options out there than Carpenter. You know, like Prater...on the condition he has his alcoholism under control.

Ireland made a lot of mistakes, but cutting Carpenter wasnt one of them.
 
Sturgis has been underwhelming to say the least.
 
Seems like we are just cursed. No matter what we do it doesn't seem to work out. Someone said our stadium was built on an Indian burial ground. I think I am starting to believe it.
 
Carpenter was bad his last years with the Fins. He needed to be cut period.
 
Calm Down!! Carpenter is doing well this year but Buffalo also has to carry a kick off specialist because Carpenter's kick offs suck. Buffalo was very very lucky to win that game. Detroit, without Reggie bush, Calvin Johnson and there horrible kicker missed (3) field goals. Buffalo has a horsehoe up their arse! Just like every year the play weel early then injures happens and then finish 6-10. So just relax.
