Or why we are where we are today...
  • In the last 5 years (2002-2006) of the draft only one team has had fewer picks than the Dolphins (32)... and that was the Redskins with (29). And 40% of those 32 picks came in the last 2 years.
If it's true that long term championship teams are built through the draft it's easy to see we are still suffering from the years of neglect of DW and RS.
  • In the last 5 years only 9 teams have lost more games than the Dolphins.
See above.
  • Hard to believe but true... in the last 5 years the Dolphins have selected more offensive players than defensive players in the draft: 15 defense and 17 offense.
  • QB-0, RB-2, WR-4, TE-2, OT-3, OG-3, C-2
  • DE-1, DT-4, LB-3, DB-7, K/P-0
And BTW the last QB we drafted was Josh Heupel in 2001
  • In the last 5 years, no team in the NFL has had fewer day 1 picks than the Miami Dolphins (10)
The competition: NE-15, Jets-16, Buf-16.. 50%+ more first day picks...you get the drift!
  • In the last 5 years, only 3 teams have had fewer day 2 picks than the Miami Dolphins (22).
The competition: NE-26, Jets-24, Buf-24.

With the last 2 years supplying (in numbers) 40% of drafted players in the last 5 years and with more first day picks this year we have the opportunity to improve... but lets face facts... we aren't closing in on our direct competition... we are just improving our abysmal numbers from the DW and RS years.

At the end of the day we need to hope it's who we draft and not where and how many we draft... and if we do that well... we'll catch up in the W/L column.

you are so right thedayafter and i apluad you for your effort. i think everything you mentioned is why we have faild to improve. we need talent not points on some dumb *** paper. for instance if we take adrian peterson , wr craig davis , center ryan kalil , and ot lyle sendlein and kevin kolb or jeff rowe then we will get to kicking *** again if we ever did that to begin with.
i dont understand why we cant get a couple of f/a olinemen so we can get more skill players. now i realize we cant just draft skill players but lets look at our wr corp am i happy with hagan , booker and vick ? hell no and i would love to draft two bigtime wrs and beef up the competition.

if we can get lb patrick willis and kevin kolb and craig davis we will be better. this is only my opinion and i just dont buy this points crap because it all happens on the feild.

And of our 10 day 1 picks in the last 5 years... Offense-6 and Defense-4....

And of our 22 day 2 picks in the last 5 years... it's split evenly... Offense/Defense-11 each.... and 7 of the 11 on defense have been DB's.

We have the opportunity to start to break out this year with 4 of the top 75 draft postitions... 9,40,60,71.... we'll see how Cam and Mueller do in the annual crap shoot.

"If" things fall the right way... we could set up key offensive positions for years... OLT Brown at 9... QB Edwards at 40... C Satale at 60....

someone... Boik? did a great thread on this subject. His focus was on how terrible the choices we DID have were... how few were still playing... nice work here dayafter.

Thanks.... yeah if you go back any further (it gets worse) and then match it up to the players selected... especially 2002-04.... it's too debilitating... better to look forward to better days ahead..lol

In the last 5 years of drafts (2002-2006) the Dolphins are one of only two teams not to have drafted a QB in any round.... the other team.... the Cowboys.... but they got lucky with Romo...

Nice post.... imagine how bad Redskin fans must feel?

Yep. Both teams have had the same sort of standing in their divisions and NFL from the late 80's and 90's heyday. Very much the same. Once great and consistent to average. :(
