Did Young dis Marino?

I must admit I spend most of my time reading posts (rather than posting) since I am usually at work when browsing the site but when one comes along a post with such stupidity I simply can't leave this one alone. It is NOT the post above that I am speaking of but what I am writing is much like this one...

I am from Massachusetts and am a Diehard Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins fan. However, right from birth I have been a diehard Dolphin fan (my family has been trying to figure out why for years and years).

There are many things I don't understand about Pats fans, and I don't want to write this all day long but their general hatred of Marino is one that baffles me. For a city that seems to know it's sports rather well (it will always be a baseball town though clearly), the Patriot fans in general seem to be unable to give credit to the opposing team for anything. Maybe it's because their franchise was a laughing stock for decades who knows, but it makes me actually cheer against them even know I am from there.

For years I saw battles between Jim Kelly and Dan Marino (I forget what the Patriots were doing at that time, hmmmmm...), and as much as I hated the Bills at that time, for me to state that Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, James Lofton, Bruce Smith, Kelly, and others are overrated or not worthy of their status is just ludicrous. They were great players, hall of fame players. You have to give them their due, even if they didnt win the big game. So if Norwood hits that FG, they are so much more "great"? That makes no sense.

Now don't get me wrong, what the Pats have done in the last 5 years has been amazing, period (Ok, their first Super Bowl run was a total joke but they certainly have been dominating ever since).

But the funny thing is the Pats fans (which now pack Foxboro at their new stadium) suddenly claim they "were there all along." On the average, it's total BS. I was there. I went to every Dolphin game at Foxboro for 15 years straight, and often 30-40% of the stands were Dolphin fans.

If you want to see a puzzled look on a New England fan, ask them who their QB was before Drew Bledsoe was drafted.......a fair question if they had in fact "been there all along." Most, you will find, have no clue. And it's not like I'm asking who their backup LT was on their '86 team either.

Even as the greatest quarterback that I have ever seen gets inducted into the HOF, I have to come on a Dolphin message board and find some idiotic post about how Marino didn't do this, and didn't do that. I consider myself honored that I had a chance to watch this outstanding player for 17 years, very often in person. The way he personally dominated a game has only been equalled by a man by the name of Jordan, however unfortunately for Dan football is more of a "team" game than basketball is.

A post like the one I just read is just moronic and ignorant. My apologies to the real Patriot fans, as I am sure there are some of you out there....

P.S. You may want to tell the bandwagon fans to shut the hell up though, they make you look bad. :shakeno:

Perfectly said, Let's just add to that the fact that EVERY team that played the Fins knew that because the Fins had no running game they would defend agains the pass, and even with teams knowing this was the plan Marino still did the job. How about the fact that it didn't matter how far the Fins were behind, other teams knew that until the clock read zero the game was not over with Marino on the other side.

Now take into consideration that when you get to the playoffs you are playing the top teams in the league, do you think that it's quite possible witht the Fins being one dimensional that Dan was fighting the odds. How about the fact that because the defense was so poor, Dan had to throw every down just to try and get the team back in the game, seems to me the more passes thrown the more chances for INT's.

It is amazing that you consider yourself a football fan, and yet your hatred for a rival proves that you really know squat about the overall game.

Even as much as all of us hated Jim Kelly the Buffalo Bill, you will find nothing but respect for him from most of the members of this board. A knowledgable Football fan knows the difference between rivalry, jealousy and facts.

The Patriots have a fan who evaluates the Salary Cap Numbers?

Geez, if that isn't an example of too much spare time I don't know what is.... :shakeno:

Seriously......I can't imagine how much time he must invest in that. He's got it all in excel spreadsheets and he updates it quite frequently. I admit its a bit strange but its awesome to be able to benefit from all his hard work. It's nice to have those type of resources available.

The Patriots have an interesting fan base that really enjoys "geeking out" on everything Patriots. It's a cool phenemenon.

It's a cool feeling being a Patriots fan b/c all fans always feel they could do a better job than the people who are actually running the show. But in New England, with Belichick, he always does it the RIGHT way. That' pretty neat.

As a Mets fan, I love having being able to have that kind of trust. It's rare.

let me help you out a bit on why Pats fans hate Marino...

....They drafted Tony Eason in 1983 instead of Dan Marino.

Now Eason DID lead the Pats to the big game in superbowl XX but his performance went down as the absolute worst in superbowl history....0-for-6, had fumbled once and been sacked three times and then was replace in the 2nd quarter by Steve Grogan on way to losing 46-10.

I can see why that might upset them.
