Man, a 12 million dollar SIGNING bonus? That is insane. If it's us this article is referring to related to Dielman, it could explain our releasing Jeno James. How much would that handicap our ability to sign another FA? I know the bonus is spread out over the length of the contract, but that would be probably around an 8 million dollar+ a year cap hit. That's huge...
Hmmmm, interesting food for thought.

It depends on the length of the contract and how much of the salary is back loaded to the end of the deal. I sincerely doubt any cap hit would approach 8 million for at least the first few years of the deal.

PFT is reporting that Kris Dielman will be in Seattle today visiting with the Seahawks... 'Hawks could be looking for a big signing to replace their loss of Steve Hutchinson last year. That would really suck if they make a big push for Dielman... they don't have a 1st round pick this year either, so don't need to consider paying a first round pick big $'s.

With the salary cap pumped up to its current level, a $12M bonus is not as huge as ya'll are making it out to be.

You do realize that top 3 draft picks sign contracts with $30M in guarantees...right?

thats ridiculous. they get rid of Hutchinson...who may i add, is LOADS better than Dielman...Shaun Alexander STILL has a field day almost every game...and the Seahawks want an OL??? theyre O-line is perfect how it is......so they go and spend 7 million to make it better? did Vikings go to to the super bowl?? No....yet they spent 7 million on Hutchinson...but he didnt take them to the super bowl.

i dont recall the Colts or Bears overspending on anybody...yet they went to the super bowl.

My guess was at least a 4 year deal, and at least 5 mil a year... 12 mil bonus = 8 mil+ cap hit a year. All speculation I know... but from what I've read he should get close to Steve Hutchinson $'s, maybe a little less. Hutchinson got a 7 year deal for 49 mil... 7/mil a year avg. Remember that Hutchinson's deal cost the Vikings 13 million in cap space in 2006.

Im sorry, Kris Dielman is not a crap player. That article is unclassy. Say he may become overpaid, but "crap player" and Kris Dielman is not necessary.

Thing is, I live in Washington state... Shaun definitely didn't have as big of holes to run through as their Super Bowl year, and definitely didn't have a field day every game. They miss Hutchinson badly... many are saying letting him go was the teams biggest mistake last year. I would virtually guarantee that the Hawks are interested in Dielman. It's just a matter of if they want to make him the big offer it will require, to keep him away from the likes of Miami...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I recall after Saban left Huizenga speaking about how much he wanted to win, and how he didn't care how much it cost. Time to out up or shut up, Wayne. I'm sick of settling for second tier talent in FA ever year, ESPECIALLY on the o-line. It's high time we spend some big bucks to land a top-notch o-lineman.

If you have the money to improve you do it. They do. We don't.

Exactly. If MIA can give Holiday a $7mil signing bonus and another $3mil roster bonus next season...they can just about role the red carpet right now for Dielman if that's all it will take to sign him...

Yes yes, because I remember the Colts weren't winning until they signed..., wait, ok how about the Steelers, they signed.. no, no, what about the Bears when they picked up..., um Seahawks got um, wait they did get Peterson the year they didn't go the the superbowl.

Well the patriots who are known for signing, ummm.

Ok the Redskins every year have HUGE signing and every year they make the superbowl, I mean playoffs, i mean, umm yea

ummm, just sign Dielman, Porter, and Mughelli, Wayne. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...the great and powerful Oz, has spoken.

I can't stand these "cheap" Mr Scrooges. As if we were cap strapped or something? Bring us Dielman and Porter, Wayne. Put your money where your mouth is!!
