I think the NFL should GREATLY reduce the amount of money given to rookies coming into the league. I think they should adopt a system similar to the NBA.http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/rookie_scale

Giving a player enough money to set them up for LIFE... BEFORE they've actually done anything in the league makes it easier for guys like Dion Jordon to make decisions he's made. "Suspended for a year? So what, I still have 15 million in the bank". I believe he got like 20 Million Guaranteed as the 3rd overall pick? I know they reduced the amount rookies get but 20 million is more than enough to live off of for life if managed properly, so where is the incentive to continue to work hard? You have to be a special kind of person to be sitting on 20 million and STILL be eager to put in the amount of physical work in that it takes to be a great NFL player. SMDH

To be honest, I don't think that would solve the issue even though I kind of agree with you. These bad habits that players come into the league with usually stem from issues having to do with poverty. Rich people do whatever they want in this world, even if they are not athletes, that is why you see all these stories of craziness from rich people in all industries, not just athletes.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, and I came up with an idea that would help the NFL 10 fold. They should start making television shows for every NFL team. Hear me out.

Not only would this help the NFL keep an eye on it's players, but it would help to tame their elicit actions by knowing that there is always a chance someone is watching them. The league would become even more filthy rich by charging fans a subscription fee to watch like they do for the NFL network. It would also give fans a look into their favorite players and teams like they never have before.

It might seem ludicrous to some but I can even see it affecting the way the game is played.

I personally think a rookie wage scale is a good idea but there should be like an arbitration process if a player greatly exceeds their rookie contract

It amazes me how people can fail a drug test they know the exact date of every year. The NFL hands you a free pass and you just rolled it up and smoked it. Ugh.

NFL teams should be able to recoup any money that was guaranteed to the player for failed drug tests, suspensions due to domestic violence, or any thing the player does outside of football to affect his participation with the team. Self inflicted suspensions should require the player to pay back the money.

Umm....its on the franchise for making poor decisions on these draft picks....dont blame the league

DONT DRAFT AIRHEADS

i only read your title to the thread and I already agreed 100% with ya!!!

Immaturity is prevalent in every social class. Please don't blame these actions on players growing up in poverty.

NFL should reclaim that money back. The guy brings disrepute to the sport yet is able to live happily ever after financially. Immorality is alive and well it seems.

give me 15 million dollars d I can assure you I would take care of my family and friends the best I could.i would do my best to be a n athlete and provider.

I should of just pumped myself full of steroids as a teenager, sign a massive contract and be a complete bust.
Who would be the dumb one then?

The failure was by Miami not doing sufficient pre-work in understanding more about Jordan. I can recall at Draft time 2 years ago, Jordan was asked if Miami was seen as a possible landing spot. He said no. Never. He had had no contact with the Dolphins, whatsoever and we played a 4 - 3 Defense - something he had never played.
This is an example of Ireland being too enamored by the Combine performance metrics and just assuming that the player could make the transitions from a 3 - 4 OLB to a 4 - 3 pass rushing DE. He bet big and got it totally wrong. Don't blame Joe for this mistake. He signed off on it because he thought he liked the idea of another pass rushing weapon and wanted to be supportive, but he didn't know what he was getting.

Nothing wrong with the wage scale. It's a crap shoot. Sometimes you hit sometimes you miss.
