He couldn't beat out Jamarcus Russell at LSU for 3 years.

He was a7th round pick in the draft. 7th round! I know Brady was taken in the 5th or 6th, but lightning
doesn't strike twice in the same place.

6-2, 225, nothing special physically, arm seems average.

He had some good games at LSU, and we all know the good games with the Packers.
I'm sure he's decent, but is he that much better than Moore?

Why break the bank on this guy. If we lose Peyton, don't go after Flynn,
play this season with Moore. If we suck, see what's out there next year.
 
im not impressed with him to be honest. look at the team around him. chad henne could throw 6 tds against the lions with that team
 
Yes I agree, but the best part is that Philbin knows flynn better than anyone, we have an inside scoop and thats awesome, if we do go after him, I trust his judgement, but I would be fine with moore this season and drafting tannehill.
 
To be fair, JaMarcus had a lot of tools that in college could mask his weaknesses... and he had 3 WRs that were drafted into the NFL a RB that went to the NFL and a great OC.

Matt Flynn actually would probably have never been a starter in college if Ryan Periloux wasn't a screw up. But that doesn't mean Flynn sucked in college.

Tom Brady was the 6th QB on the depth chart at Michigan at one point and after Brian Griese graduated, Tom split a good amount of time with Drew Henson. So don't take NFL failures for college playing time.

A popular myth is that lightning cannot strike the same place twice, but nothing could be further from the truth. Lightning does, can and will strike the same exact place more than once. It doesn’t have a memory, and if an object has been struck once, it is no less likely to be struck a second time.

If you don’t believe me, just ask some of the employees at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The shuttle launch pad gets hit time and time again, sometimes more than once in the same storm. How about the Empire State Building in New York city which gets struck by lightning about 25 times each year. Even Roy Sullivan was struck by lightning 7 times!

You subscribe the WV school of QB evaluation. If he's not a first round pick, then he's no good. If we miss out on Manning, I'll take Philbin's opinion of him over yours every day and twice on Sunday!
 
what he did in college no longer matters...that mattered when he was a draft prospect...its what he did as a pro when he got his chance that matters to front office personnel and should matter to fanbases...

wow, just wow. i feel stupid just responding to this thread. facts are he is a 62 qb who was drafted in the 7th round. thanks for the info... why do you even feel like giving an opionion when you have probably never seen this guy throw a single pass. jamarcus russell was always slow. flynn did win a national championship and as an lsu fan, he won the game w/ his legs and intelligence. he has been in philbins system for 4 years which is perfect for qb's like him in the west coast offense. recognition of the defense and beating the blitz is half the game....

edit: sorry if i came off as disrespectful, sometimes i drink and just start typing...

Given your thoery, how do you explain what happened with AJ Feeley after his fine run when he steppped in for Philly? The similarites between the Feeley and Flynn stories give pause for concern, I would think. Once bitten, twice shy.
 
The facts in this thread are that he was behind a physical freak in college, was drafted in the 7th round, and is shorter than preferred for QBs?

These all would have been helpful when he was being evaluated shortly after the draft, but since then he has beaten out higher drafted QBs, has played fantastically in two starts at the NFL level, and has earned the respect of players and coaches alike. It makes no sense to stare at past credentials when a player has actually progressed and grown to be a surefire candidate for NFL starting QB.

i don't even recall a fine run for feeley...i always thought that dude was garbage...anyways on the flynn front if philbin endorses him i can roll with that...i just don't see many options at this point and i don't see ireland unless he absolutely has to as in no choice but rolling with a rookie qb in the draft in 2012...

i mean there's pause here given the small body of work but there's also potential...i just don't see the harm...we're not trading anything for him unlike feeley we're just using cap space which if we work the contract right we can still if he fails get out in a year or so...if zona can get out of the kolb contract should peyton come there why can't
we with flynn provided we put it together right...

Well for one, Feeley was a pure west coast offense QB (a very limited one at that too). He failed because he wasn't talented enough to switch to a new offense. Flynn would be running the very same offense with the same terminology. A system where he has had success. See the difference now?
 
I'm not saying Flynn isn't talented. he may be better than Moore. West coast experience, and Philbin's recommendation
will be factors in his favor.

I'm just saying that Cleveland and Seattle will make a big offers, and I don't know if Ross
will want to break the bank for potential not flash.

I'll add this. If they can sign him to a cap friendly deal, allowing us to add other players, then
perhaps it will work.
