RICKY SPEAKS

This week's Ricky Williams speechifying featured this comment on what he would consider satisfactory accomplishments this season:

''I'm not here to accomplish anything. That way I can look back, I can look at the process and see how much I had a chance to grow. Because no matter what you go through in life, whether you have success or not, you still are going to grow as a person. That's what is most important.

Asked what his ideal playing weight would be, Williams said:

''It's just a number. To have a number to say what I play at is kind of ridiculous.''

This guy is trying to kick to much knowledge. The Im not here to accomplish anything statement is kind of scary. I feel him about the growth and whatnot....but he seems to not be setting goals or have some kind of end result....That to me sounds pragmatic.

the rest of the interview was great tho... the media has spun it...

he also commented how great he thought Ronnie was and how he wanted to become a role model for him and the younger members of the team.

thats just typical Ricky logic.. He has that eastern view of life now.

A question to Rickty might be...So Ricky whats your favorite color? "Well what really IS color? it's just the bending of light into something that our mind sees as color, but does color really exist?"

See what I mean it's Ricky logic.

Honestly, I could care less about philosophical rants. Everyone is entitled to express their opinions on life, work, the world, etc. All I care about is that he comes to play every Sunday, works hard in every practice and stays out of trouble.

He's just one of a few players in the league that you just have to ignore what he says and just let his playing ability do the talking.

He'll never really make any sense and he admits his best friends don't even understand him. The guy is an enigma.

I don't find his words disturbing, just because you don't set specific goals or have an agenda doesn't make it disturbing. I think that is what he meant, he's not setting specific goals because if people don't reach them they think and are perceived they are a failure. He just wants to do his best and grow as a person wihtout the added pressure of goals.

lol i see your point

I like Ricky, it must be so annoying to ask him a simple question though. "Hey Ricky, you hungry?"
"Well... define hunger, and while you're at it bring into consideration my astro-body."

Its actually quite clever, as it fits into his recent pilgrimage to India, to weave a very believable persona. This, while successfully cloaking his more revealing and newsworthy quirks.

He twists his statements into vague philosophical banter, instead of allowing the paparrazzi usable quotes, to misinterpret at their whim.

To echo what everyone else said, those who are indifferent about ricky, we don't care what he says off the field as long as his actions are loud on the field. To those who don't like ricky, you guys can't help yourselves, you are going to look for anything bad in anything he does in hopes of justifying your dislike of the man.

Beat me to it. my feeling exactly. hes always had presuure during his football carrer, to be the best. whether at Texas or in the nfl when ditka gave up all those draft picks for him. i think he just means that he wont let that be a distaction anymore and he will just go out there and play to his abilities. he doesnt think leading the league in rushing or being a big bruising back are that important anymore. take it anyway u want, but he'lll be OK. and if not, well thats why we drafted Ronnie!! so either way we will be fine. It will, however be interesting to see how the whoile "ricky" situation plays out this year. I for one hope he remains a dolphin for his whole carreer. no matter how long or short it is. hes a great talent
