People are debating who should start on the defensive line.I personally think it should be this:

DE:matt roth and Jason taylor
DT:Kevin carter and Keith traylor but keith and manuel shoul switch on and off

I don't think anybody on the line save for Jason Taylor is going to "start". The other three positions seem destined to me to be basically rotations, so the player who begins the game or who gets the bulk of the work will just depend on what needs to be done in that particular game. Even Taylor may end up looking like a linebacker at points.

agreed. Roth,Holliday,Traylor,Bowens,Chester(praying),Wright,Carter should all play a good deal.

I believe Taylor will obviously get the most time followed by Carter.

when Carter was interviewed, he said that he was going to play LE, and move to DT in obvious passing situations

Didn't Carter come aboard before many of the folks we have now? Those plans have probably changed in some regards.

I think Holliday, Traylor, Roth, and Wright are all more recent additions than Carter is. At the time Carter signed, Nick may have thought David Bowens would be a goner for sure (and I guess he still could be).

Kevin Carter seems to me to be a very good bet to be in the game in both of those positions, but I don't know that he will start at either.

I hope that proves to be the case as that's when Carter can do the most damage. If he's forced to play inside on 1st and 2nd downs he can hold his own, but we won't get as much production out of him.

its all about matchups, we can do a lot of things...

for beefy run stopping we could have
DE carter
DT chester?
DT Traylor
DE taylor

for definate passing downs
DE roth
DT holliday
DT carter
DE taylor

^jesus thats a sick pass rushing line right there...

we have lots of cogs to play with now, should be a lot of fun...

You forgot this look:

DE Holliday
DT Traylor
DE Carter

OLB Taylor
ILB Spragan
ILB Thomas
OLB Bowens (if he's sticking around)

The LBs in the middle don't matter much, so I'm frankly not concerned about whether that's a realistic or not. The key is that it would almost be like a 5-2 defense we could use to scare the crap out of teams in just the right situations.

Did you not see my LB disclaimer? I wasn't sure who we'd put on the inside, and I don't think you'd want to have him playing OLB in that formation over Bowens because of what you'd want to be doing.

Crowder.....I would think that he'd be there before Spragan (who has never played there), considering thats Channing's natural position

I don't know that he'll be ready to take on that responsibility so quickly, or I would have listed him. See, that's the problem with putting a name in that other slot. Heck, I'm not even sure Thomas would play in that formation to tell you the truth. It might be important to have more size there.

We ought to wait until we see Roth play with the big boys before we dub him a starter.

To me, if I'm building a Madden depth chart...

LDE: Kevin Carter, Matt Roth, Vonnie Holliday
LDT(one-gap): Keith Traylor, Larry Chester, Vonnie Holliday
RDT: Jeff Zgonina, Kevin Carter, Manuel Wright
RDE: Jason Taylor, David Bowens, Matt Roth

LOLB: Donnie Spragan, David Bowens (3-4), Channing Crowder, Corey Jenkins
LILB/MLB: Junior Seau, Channing Crowder, Derrick Pope, Eddie Moore
RILB/WSLB: Zach Thomas, Derrick Pope, Eddie Moore
ROLB (3-4): Jason Taylor, David Bowens

The people that talk about us moving to the 3-4 fulltime right away pretty much are ignoring one big thing: we're seriously overloaded on the DL, while we're really only six deep at linebacker unless Eddie Moore shows something we've never seen.
