One of the reason we drafted Langford in the 3rd round, is the Dolphins believe Langford can become a great nose tackle in the 3-4 defense. He has a huge frame and can put on more weight. Plus he excells versus the run and can tie up blockers.

I think a few years down the road we will be very happy we drafted this guy, I can not wait to see how he turns out for us. I love how we addressed the offensive & defensive lines.

I agree. I especially like that they focused on more picks in just a few positions rather than one pick per need. A 50% chance of getting a contributer in two positions is far better than a 25% chance of getting a contributor in 4 positions (throwing out arbitrary numbers obviously). It's basic statistics, but i feel that a lot of people overlook this point. Starting with the O-Line and D-Line are as good of places as any, and one can obviously make a strong argument that they're the best. The philosophy is sound and the philosophy is all you can control, so I'm happy. The draft class and the player progression is always up to luck, so no matter how this particular run through turns out, I find it difficult to truly fault the staff.

ya dude we are far from having this D line set. if he becomes a NT we will STILL either way be looking for another END. Merling will be one, langrod one, and another one via draft most likely next year followed with a MLB and 2 OLb. this D is FAAAAAAAAAAAR from set guys. all teh guys we picked up are stop gaps or GOOD depth players and they said we went 1 and 15 b/c we had NO DEPTH last year adn thats what we accomplished in FA as those were the words of our FO.

Watching him workout in that youtube clip, he looks more like an end based on body type. He's lean and cut at his current 290ish weight. I can see where he has room to put on weight, but a guy that tall isn't going to be your typical 3-4 NT. I'm happy if he ends up productive in either slot.

Ridiculous.

This guys body (and movement) is the prototypical DE in Parcells' system. He's not going to be a nosetackle.

Lean, cut guys have major issues putting on weight. I know this fact personally :( With that said, we can get a beast next year for a NT instead of trying to create one. Ferg can give us one good year then start training his replacement.

starks is a back up NT, SOLAI might come along with technique teaching finally as last year he was ignored in that department along with fergie giving us a yera or 2 of solid play and dotson having the potential to become a NT. langford is the PERFECT 3-4 END. can't get better then that.

I think Solai days are numbered with the drafting of Dotson.

When I think Nosetackle...I think of a guy like Warren Sapp.....a fat bowling ball guy with speed. I just think Langford clogging it up as an NT in the middle, but I am sure Parcells and Sparano know what they want on the lines.

Langford was draft to anchor the LDE spot... it looks like team parcells had their eye on him last year while in Dallas... Jeff Ireland made a statement regarding Langford... saying how he was on there radar for more than a year!!! i DO NOT think Langford will be a DT... he played DE while playing in 2 post season all star games and from what i saw... he can really stack the run... he was a guy i had hoped miami would pick...

NAH
He will be a DE for sure.
He is long with l;ong arms and has pretty goood feet.
he played well as a read DE in Hamptons system. We will have to se him attach in theis 3-4.
He plays pretty good on his feet.
I'm sure we will see him in coverage sometimes as a change up.
HE WON'T BE A OLB (I need to put that becasue some people take your words to far, but there are time when you will see him drop into coverage in a zone blitz)

With his height he needs to add about 100 lbs if he's going to become a nose tackle.

I could not disagree more. A 6-6 NT is almost non-existent. Leverage is the key at NT. Bowens probably pushed it at 6-4, and I never really saw Bowens as a true NT. Traylor is more like the position is. Kory Robertson, who they just signed as a rookie free agent, is about 6-2 and 330 so pounds. He was the strongest player on the Hokie team. He is more of a typical nose tackle. I actually see Dotson as a 3-4 DE than nose tackle, but Ireland said he could put on weight and possibly play the position.
But back to your point. Most of the positive reviews the Dolphins have gotten on Langford as a pick point to how perfect he fits the DE position in a Bill Parcells defense. I could be proven wrong, but I don't ever think he will be considered for NT.
