Im watching the game again and am thinking of how offenses of been pass happy against us. Our linebackers (Crowder) often runs past the play.

Do you think it would be better to blitz less often and keep a player or 2 back. Alot of passes are being completed over the middle where the blitzer would have been if he didnt blitz.

Thoughts?

we suck at blitzing, yet we keep doing it. we suck at throwing the ball, yet we keep doing it.......notice a trend

I think it is natural to have that reaction given the way the defense has played and the amount of time Miami blitzed under the past defense. I don't think it's that simple, though. Without the pressure gained from the blitzes, the QB has more time to pick apart a weak secondary and torch the team. Besides that, the defenders need to be ready and able to implement this defense when the team is really playing for a championship. Practice makes perfect, and now is the time to be working with the training wheels on if there ever is a time.

I think our Dline gets enough pressure to enable us to blitz less... I don't mean abandon the blitz. I just mean not doing all the time... because we're doing it all the time. A good team can plan around it... and they are, by the way our secondary is getting exploited.
i just don't think its necessary. We can be just as effective.

My biggest issue with the Blitz's aren't the number but the lack of pressure when we do blitz. If we had Surtain we could handle the corners one-on-one, but not with our current secondary.

In Addition, we are still learning a new defense and players are out of position and 1/2 step tentative. We still need a few more pieces in place for the Blitz package to work.

Honestly it is hard to tell Miami blitzes a lot. The never get pressure or even into the backfield. It is almost comical watching one of our blitzes charging like mad towards the line than...... whoops....where did they go??? Then 5 or 6 seconds later the QB checks off to his 3rd or 4th option for 20 yards.

So IF we really are blitzing, the you can keep the number of attempts, just drastically up the effectiveness.

lots of truth here from all of you....here is my theory....Saban knows the secondary is suspect...and with Jones out for the year...its worse...We blitz to hide our imperfections at covering wide receivers....here is the problem...we are predictable at blitzing....we need to disguise them better....and of course...having the personal helps also. Almost allllllllll year...at 3rd and long....we blitz...and man have we gotten burned......notice almost every time we stuff a running play for no gain or a loss.....its because we blitzed. We blitz alot....the coaches are trying to cover our weak secondary......but a band-aid on a leaky pipe...doesnt work too good.....IMO. I think if we get into a 3rd and long more often....we drop back and keep the receivers in front of us....and let them make a mistake.....counting on one on one coverage is kicking out butts.

We definitely seem to have one of the least effective blitz packages I can remember. I'm constantly amazed at the number of people heading for the QB with no pressure actually being applied.
