The Oracle
Penalties are really 90% on the coaching staff.
Don Shula's teams tended to be last in the NFL in penalties. One big reason was how well Shula made his team's practice. In practice he had "refs" who would call the penalties they saw in practice and the player would be dealt with then.
Practice makes prefect.
A prefect or even very good practice will make for good game play.
And I think coaching comes from the top. The Head Coaches main job is to make sure his OC, DC and other assistants are coaching hard and coaching well. It seems like right now even the simple things like proper stretching is being missed, players are not practicing at a high level.
It is a shame that we do not have a "Jason Garrett" on our coaching staff or we could do like the Cowboys did last season. They fired a good defensive coordinator who was their Head Coach (W Phillips) and turned the job over to J Garrett. They then started winning football games.
Is there anyone right now on the Dolphins coaching staff that if they became the Head Coach interim, could semi turn thing around in Miami?
